Job Description
As part of the leadership of the School of Architecture, the Communications Program Director oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy for the School. Notre Dame’s architecture curriculum is unique in its focus on traditional architecture and urbanism, and in its dedication to principles that encourage community, a sense of place, and a built environment designed at a human scale.
The School offers academic degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with the unique experience of required curriculum taught in Rome. Working with the senior leadership of the School, the Program Director develops strategies that integrate print, digital, and media relations initiatives to enhance the reputation of the School among its key constituencies, including architecture critics and the media, deans of schools of architecture and professionals, policymakers and developers, alumni and prospective students, and the University.
The Program Director writes content, manages the creation of print and electronic publications, creates a comprehensive social media strategy, and promotes faculty research. The Director also serves as the School’s representative within the University’s communications network, collaborating closely with executive and campus communications teams to elevate the School's distinctive strengths and contributions, identify opportunities to connect the School's work to broader University priorities, share best practices, and ensure alignment with University messaging and brand standards.
Responsibilities
- Writing: Writes, edits, and manages the production of communications materials, including press releases, feature stories, website content, social media, event marketing, and other outreach pieces.
- Communications Strategy: Working closely with the Dean, develops and implements a strategic communications plan to enhance the School's reputation among its key constituencies. Writes content, manages the creation of print and electronic publications, creates a comprehensive social media strategy, and elevates the visibility of faculty research among key audiences.
- Communications: Communicates to key audiences that support the advancement of the School's strategic plan. Oversees the process of maintaining and updating content on the School’s websites and social media channels as well as the electronic newsletter and periodic communications supporting publicity efforts, career services, graduate student recruitment, alumni, development and community and professional outreach.
- Promotion: Assists School leadership in the development and promotion of key events throughout the year including architectural prizes, alumni events, academic conferences, commencement and the School lecture series. Manages content distribution for periodic publications including conference proceedings and special projects as well as the School’s annual academic journal (ANTA). Oversees all marketing and outreach activities within the School.
- Media Relations: Serves as the School of Architecture's primary liaison to Notre Dame's central media relations team. Identifies and develops media opportunities that advance the School of Architecture's strategic priorities. Collaborates with faculty and school leadership to surface newsworthy stories, research, events, and thought leadership; develops media pitches and communication strategies; and works with central media relations professionals to secure and coordinate earned media coverage. Manages relationships with external public relations consultants in support of specific communications initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (4 years).
- Experience: 7 or more years relevant experience.
- Degree Qualifications: Degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field.
Benefits
Hiring Pay Range: Up to $75,000, commensurate with experience.
