Job Summary
The Exhibition Technology Senior Specialist works as a technologist in a unique and exceptional immersive arts exhibition covering areas of lighting, sound, video, projections, networking, show power, control & automation, interactive game mechanics, computer art installations, and animatronics. The role is responsible for repairs and preventive maintenance of exhibit technology, along with design and development of enhancements related to the functionality & overall experience of the exhibition. The ideal candidate should be proficient in redesigning or rebuilding problematic systems or installing new systems during new installations.

Job Responsibilities

Carry out installations, repairs, and upgrades on technical show equipment and systems, adhering to electrical codes, regulations, and standards.

Execute daily inspections, create and follow preventive maintenance schedules, and use the Meow Wolf designated maintenance database.

Manage parts inventory and software backups.

Document all maintenance and inspections using the Corporate CMMS.

Develop and document custom interactive artwork, objects and installations that integrate sensors, micro‑controllers, computers, lights, sound, video, and electromechanical elements.

Ensure best practices, standard operating procedures and safety related work practices are followed.

Assist in training exhibit staff (team members, managers, docents, etc.) to engage guests with technical installations.

Support all exhibit staff members as needed on projects and repairs.

Install, test and report on new software and firmware upgrades.

Report needs of parts to the Exhibition Manager.

Collaborate with all Meow Wolf staff within the exhibition staff and sister exhibitions to support the team.

Work independently and in partnership with other exhibit teams to keep the exhibition clean, safe and functional.

Observe guest interactions and conceptualize enhancements for the guest experience.

Design and implement guest experience enhancements.

Upgrade, enhance and recreate exhibit assets to improve operation and functionality.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of professional experience in performing arts, live events, immersive arts or theme park environments.

Active licensure or certification in at least one relevant discipline.

Respect and competence in safety standards and practices.

Proficient in reading & interpreting code & documentation and adjusting code.

Basic knowledge of GitHub and version‑controlled project management.

Strong communication, collaboration and self‑management skills.

Strong organization and documentation capabilities.

Highly detail oriented, meticulous and organized.

Strong fabrication skills and skilled with power and hand tools.

Nice to Have

Competency in troubleshooting embedded systems that incorporate Arduino, Teensy, and Raspberry Pi.

Advanced understanding of Max/MSP.

Advanced understanding of Touch Designer.

Experience designing with CAD & CAM software for use with 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC milling.

Lighting programming experience, especially with ETC systems.

Advanced understanding of network engineering & IT infrastructure.

Adept in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, Node‑Red, JavaScript; frameworks like NodeJS, Svelte/React; and protocols like OSC, MIDI, TCP/UDP.

Familiarity with PCBs, logic circuits, schematics, sensors/components, prototyping, and layout.

Comfortable with Linux, macOS and Windows command‑line and GUI administration.

Experience with projectors and media servers.

OSHA 10 General Industry certification.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Operate primarily indoors with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strobing lights, special effects, smoke machines and small and/or enclosed spaces.

May be required outdoors for special events or maintenance.

Ability to work at heights at times with provided training and equipment.

Moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including small, enclosed spaces.

Remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods.

Repeat motions that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Position or move objects up to 75 pounds.

Use maintenance tools and cleaning equipment, including cleaning agents and chemicals.

Use lead‑free solder with smoke extraction required.

Use access equipment such as ladders and aerial work platforms; safe standards required for work at heights.

Operate and manipulate power tools, specialty lighting, fog machines, computers, rigging equipment, projectors and all other exhibit technical equipment as needed.

Work Schedule
This is a full‑time position that requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Supervisor Responsibilities
This position does not require supervisory responsibility.

Travel
This position does not require travel.
