$218,000.00 – $283,000.00
Role Overview
As Director of Content Design, you will define and drive the content design strategy for Etsy’s entire product ecosystem. You will set the vision for content quality, lead high‑impact work across buyer and seller experiences, and elevate the practice of content design at Etsy.
You will partner deeply with Brand, Legal, Product Design, and Design Systems to create a cohesive content voice and style that is clear, consistent, and unmistakably Etsy. You will lead a team of content designers who embed content quality into the product experience at every level.
This full‑time position reports to the Director of Product Design, UX Foundations. In addition to salary, you will be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and competitive benefits that support you and your family.
We are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub may be considered first. For those within commutable distance, in‑office attendance is required once or twice per week depending on proximity to the office. Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Define and maintain high standards for content quality across Etsy’s buyer and seller surfaces; own the content design system and the tooling that supports scaling.
- Lead and develop a team of content designers embedded across product verticals; build a culture of independent work and shared craft standards.
- Drive the content strategy for Etsy’s horizontal design systems, ensuring content patterns are first‑class components at scale.
- Serve as a senior design partner to product verticals; coach or lead teams as needed and manage content risks.
- Represent content design in product planning, surface quality issues early, and build influence to ship high‑quality content that holds the bar.
- Hire, develop, and retain exceptional talent; coach designers across levels and embed healthy feedback practices into daily work.
- Handle additional tasks and responsibilities as determined by Etsy’s discretion or applicable law.
Qualifications
- 12+ years in content design, UX writing, or content strategy, with significant leadership experience managing and mentoring content designers and senior ICs.
- Track record of building and scaling content design practices, including content systems, voice and tone frameworks, and guidelines adopted by other teams.
- Experience as an embedded partner on product teams, shipping high‑quality content in complex, high‑traffic consumer products.
- Strong history of building cross‑functional partnerships with Product, Engineering, Design, Brand, and Legal to make content a first‑class part of product design and shipping.
- Experience on buyer/seller marketplaces or two‑sided consumer platforms is a strong plus.
- Portfolio demonstrating systems‑level thinking and specific product decisions at various scopes and ambiguities.
- Ability to hire, develop, and retain strong content designers, and to advocate for the work to audiences lacking a content background.
