We are currently in the final stages of construction and preparing to open our inaugural 2026/2027 season.

Position Overview

Strongbox Theater is seeking an experienced and versatile Production & Facilities Manager to join our team as we open our doors. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build a new theatrical institution from the inside — establishing the systems, workflows, and standards that will define Strongbox’s operations for years to come.

Reporting directly to the theater’s ownership, this role is responsible for the smooth technical execution of all productions as well as the day-to-day management of the physical facility. The ideal candidate is an organized, hands-on professional who is equally comfortable in a production meeting and a mechanical room.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between ownership and directors, designers, and production staff for all Strongbox-produced and co-produced programming.
  • Oversee all load-in, technical rehearsal, and load-out schedules, ensuring smooth transitions between productions.
  • Manage the configuration and safe operation of the modular StageRight stage platforming and flexible seating arrangements for each production.
  • Operate and maintain the audio system, including the Yamaha DM7C digital mixing console, d&b audiotechnik loudspeaker/amplifier system, and Sennheiser wireless microphone systems; serve as primary operator or supervise contracted board operators as needed.
  • Operate and maintain the ETC lighting console and associated systems; manage lighting programming and operation for all productions.
  • Manage the video system including the Epson WUXGA laser projector, Draper motorized screen, and Atlona HDBaseT signal distribution.
  • Oversee the Clear-Com wired and Hollyland wireless intercom systems.
  • Develop and enforce technical riders and production standards in coordination with visiting designers and directors.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all production equipment, soft goods, hardware, and expendables.
  • Assist ownership in developing production budgets and tracking technical expenditures.

Facilities Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all building-related vendors, including pest control, HVAC, fire suppression, elevator service, waste removal, and general maintenance contractors.
  • Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all facility systems and equipment.
  • Ensure the facility remains in compliance with all applicable building, fire, and health codes.
  • Coordinate with ownership on capital improvement needs, repairs, and long-term facility planning.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of all non-food-service areas of the building.
  • Manage facility keys, access credentials, and security system protocols.
  • Serve as primary contact for building emergencies outside of regular business hours.

Standard Operating Procedures & Administration

  • Collaborate with ownership to develop and document SOPs for all technical and facilities operations.
  • Maintain organized records for vendor contracts, equipment manuals, maintenance logs, and production files.
  • Participate in pre-production planning meetings and season scheduling discussions.
  • Assist in orienting and onboarding production staff, guest designers, and visiting companies to Strongbox’s systems and protocols.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a production management, technical direction, or facilities management role in a professional theater, performing arts center, or comparable live entertainment venue.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with theatrical lighting and audio systems.
  • Experience managing modular or flexible staging configurations.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the production calendar.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Yamaha digital mixing consoles (DM7 series) and Dante audio networking.
  • Experience with d&b audiotechnik loudspeaker systems.
  • Experience opening a new venue or launching a new organization.
  • Knowledge of Long Island/NYC building code, fire safety requirements, and place of assembly regulations.
  • Experience developing SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Salary: $55,000 – $75,000 commensurate with experience.
  • 2 weeks paid time off (PTO).
  • Opportunity to grow with a new organization from the ground up.
