News Producer/Videographer

WANE-TV, the CBS Affiliate in Fort Wayne, IN, is seeking an experienced News Producer/Videographer to join our news team. The ideal candidate has excellent writing skills and news judgment, is energetic and creative, and can think big picture to break stories. The role requires handling breaking news situations, working well under pressure, shooting video, conducting interviews, and managing live shots.
Responsibilities

Produce daily newscast items and decide the order stories are told
Write teases and other content, time news programs, and approve scripts
Balance news and feature content to create compelling broadcasts
Shoot and edit video, conduct interviews with officials on breaking news scenes, and set up and shoot live shots
Write stories for the website and other digital platforms
Communicate with managers and teams in the field daily and pitch story ideas
Cover weekend and weekday shifts, including overnights
Requirements & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or equivalent education/experience
At least one year of experience in news operations (market size dependent)
Excellent verbal, written, grammar, and analytical skills
Ability to interact well with video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production, and engineering staff
Detail‑oriented with strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity, and understanding of viewer needs and expectations
Flexibility to work any shift
Physical Demands & Work Environment

The writer must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, and engage in face‑to‑face discussions. They must lift, set up, and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and be able to handle repetitive movements. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. The writer must be able to make decisions without supervision that impact the results of coworkers.
