University Marketing within the Division of University Communication and Marketing (UCM ) is responsible for developing and implementing marketing plans intended to help the university reach its strategic goals. University Marketing works in partnership with administrative and academic units across campus to promote the UMBC brand, attract students, and position the university among key stakeholders and constituents.


Position Overview:


The Photographer will work closely with University Communication and Marketing members on various photography projects,including (but not limited to):



  • Taking pictures for our materials by working with the latest technologies

  • Editing, color correcting, tagging production-ready photos with Adobe Creative Cloud, and adding them to our DAM(Bynder) and Archive (Box)

  • Participating in photography efforts related to UMBC Magazine

  • Working with project managers to deliver assets in a timely manner

  • Assisting the production coordinator, other designers, and the video producer with their work.

  • Developing assets for Canva and the style guide

Responsibilities:


The Photographer will work closely with university communication and marketing members on various photography projects, including (but not limited to)
marketing and recruitment projects, campus events, performances, magazine photos, and storytelling and campus life images. The position will play a critical role in supporting upcoming high-profile departmental initiatives, including UMBC’s strategic plan, development campaign, and increased digital and social media opportunities.


In addition, the position will play an important part in the implementation and maintenance of a digital asset management system. Specific duties include coordinating shoots, performing hands‑on photography work, edits and colour corrections, delivering images promptly, communicating efficiently with clients, and performing other duties as assigned.


Required Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree preferably in photography, fine arts, graphic design, web design, related area

  • 2 years of professional experience

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Suite, and MS Office.

  • A general understanding of design and production, work management tools, digital asset management (DAM) systems, metadata, and tagging/labeling photos is a plus.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Three to five years of professional experience and an M.A./M.F.A. in a related field are preferred.


Additionally, the ideal candidate will be a team player, a positive self‑starter, and detail-oriented. They need to produce work that is on brand, current, and polished. They should enjoy working with clients, have a sincere desire to help meet their communications goals, and be able to assess strategies to help create the most effective images. The ideal candidate must be able to learn new skills independently, coordinate photoshoots, manage our DAM, work within the development cycle for communication initiatives, and manage time to meet aggressive deadlines.

Salary: $63,000 to $71,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.


The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
