Staff Transmission Line Engineer - Southeast
Overview
A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a
Staff Transmission Line Engineer
to support the continued expansion of its Transmission & Distribution practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of overhead transmission line projects while contributing to the technical development of junior staff and supporting the successful delivery of complex utility infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
Perform and support all aspects of overhead transmission line design, including:
PLS-CADD modeling
Line routing and alignment studies
Structure loading and analysis
Development of design criteria
Sag and tension calculations
Wire blowout and swing angle evaluations
Damper recommendations
Structure spotting and clearance reporting
Conductor and shield wire selection
Develop specifications for transmission line construction, materials, hardware, and related equipment.
Support structural design, hardware selection, and field implementation activities for high-voltage transmission projects.
Prepare construction drawing packages, cost estimates, and technical reports.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure quality and schedule objectives are met.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
Participate in quality reviews and support project execution as a technical resource.
Assist with client coordination and project delivery efforts as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET‑accredited program and a minimum of 3 years of transmission line engineering experience.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology (ABET‑accredited), successful completion of the FE exam, and a minimum of 3 years of transmission line engineering experience.
OR
Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline and a minimum of 2 years of transmission line engineering experience.
Preferred Experience & Skills
Experience designing overhead transmission lines ranging from
69kV to 500kV .
Proficiency with industry‑standard software such as:
PLS-CADD
PLS-POLE
PLS-TOWER
Other Power Line Systems software
Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering principles related to transmission line design.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Previous consulting experience is a plus.
Additional Information
Full‑time position
Approximately 10% travel required
Multiple office locations available throughout the Southeast region (North Carolina and Tennessee)
