The External Communications Specialist supports Mintz’s media relations, awards, and communications program by executing key PR processes, developing and editing content, and ensuring timely distribution of media coverage and announcements. Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications, this role provides both substantive and administrative support to advance firm visibility, attorney recognition, and positioning across external channels.

Key Responsibilities
Media Relations Support

Collaborate across the full Communications team to review, evaluate, and vet media opportunities, including conflict checks.

Draft and edit internal and external communications that balance journalistic writing, storytelling, and brand alignment.

Assist in developing media lists, pitches, and media briefing materials.

Fully own the media monitoring and tracking process.

Content Development and Distribution

Support updates to the Mintz website related to attorney media placements.

Produce weekly internal communications summarizing media coverage.

Assist in obtaining permission and reprint rights for bylined articles and republished content.

Awards, Surveys, and Reporting

Identify and track awards and recognitions; assist with nominations in collaboration with Business Development, Marketing, and attorneys.

Collect data and assist with firmwide survey submissions.

Help prepare reports and analytics for firm leadership.

Program Operations and Tools

Use AI tools to support drafting, editing, and summarizing content, with strong attention to accuracy, tone, and brand alignment.

Maintain and update media contact lists.

Support use of media monitoring platforms and ensure accuracy of tracking.

Collaborate with colleagues and external vendors as needed.

Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

This role requires 60% in office presence; remote work is permissible 40% of the time.

Occasional travel between offices may be required. Flexibility to work overtime as appropriate to support team and business objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field.

3+ years of PR, corporate communications, or journalism experience; law firm or professional services experience preferred.

Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills aligned with journalistic standards.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

High attention to detail and ability to execute tasks through completion.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think logically.

Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

High level of professionalism, discretion, and customer service.

Physical Demands
This position requires sitting or standing for long periods of time and the continuous operation of standard office equipment, such as computers, keyboards and phones. It also requires mobility sufficient to perform certain job functions, such as getting to photocopiers/scanners/fax machines, and regular bending, reaching, lifting, stooping and occasionally pulling, pushing and/or lifting items that weigh up to 25 pounds.

Salary

Boston/Washington D.C.: $85,000-105,000

NY: $95,000-115,000

This position is bonus eligible. Mintz offers a comprehensive benefits package.
