GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Assists and instructs the public in using Makerspace equipment and services. Operates and maintains machines, tools, and various equipment. Maintains a positive and clean environment. Under the supervision of the Makerspace Supervisor.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Using strong communication & soft‑skills to support patrons' creative projects.
Ensuring safe and proper usage of Makerspace equipment.
Keeping updated on new technology that benefits the library and its patrons.
Participating in improvements to the Makerspace and outreach efforts.
Carrying out workshops and presentations.
Cleaning, tidying, and organizing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of computers, various equipment (e.g. 3‑D printers, poster printers, and scanners); demonstrates innovation for current and future equipment; orderliness, self‑motivated, adaptability, ability to work with others and to communicate pleasantly and effectively. Regular attendance and punctuality is essential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required. Some training past high school preferred.
Proficiency with computers required.
Some subject knowledge developed through work experience.
Evening and weekend work required.
Kansas driver’s license.
Good health.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
Lifts and carries up to 25 lbs.
Pushes up to 60 lbs. of materials/equipment on carts.
Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and stooping.
Bending, twisting, and reaching.
Talking and hearing, potentially in a noisy environment.
Vision sufficient to read text on computer monitors.
Handling, processing, and picking up creative supplies and equipment.
Manual dexterity (e.g. threading a needle, using cutting tools, handling small screws and parts).
Keyboarding, writing, filing, and sorting paperwork.
EQUIPMENT USED
Computers, automated manufacturing machines, various hand tools (powered or not).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates mainly indoors in an office setting and in direct customer service situations. There will be some travel required and some work outdoors at programs and events. This is a fully on-site position.
