Social Media Content Creator & Assistant
Virginia Western Community College – Roanoke, VA – Part‑time, temporary (until December 2026). 29 hours per week. Work may include occasional evening or weekend hours and local events.

Responsibilities

Produce end‑to‑end digital content to promote the campus experience across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Capture high‑quality multimedia assets, edit short‑form video using CapCut and other tools, and maintain brand voice and accessibility standards.

Manage day‑to‑day community engagement, moderate comments, and maintain a consistent brand voice.

Analyze digital metrics and report on content effectiveness to support recruitment and retention efforts.

Collaborate with campus partners, facilities and external stakeholders for content development.

Qualifications

Education, training or experience in social media, communications, marketing or a related field.

Demonstrated ability to develop engaging and persuasive marketing and social media content.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), CapCut, Canva and other multimedia tools.

Strong written and verbal communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.

Knowledge of Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn algorithms, trends and demographics.

Proficiency in mobile and desktop multimedia tools (CapCut, Canva, Adobe Premiere) and understanding of lighting, framing and audio.

Familiarity with digital accessibility standards (ADA, WCAG) for alt‑text, captioning and contrast.

Strong organizational, time‑management and prioritization skills with minimal supervision.

Interpersonal skills to approach students, faculty and staff for content capture.

Experience with community management, reputation monitoring and content management systems such as WordPress.

Experience analyzing digital metrics to identify organic opportunities aligned with college strategy.

Preferred

Higher education experience.

Experience working with stakeholders across traditional and adult learners.

Experience in digital reputation management or basic public relations.

Knowledge of Trello and Adobe Creative Cloud.
