Times Opinion is looking for a creative Senior Producer to oversee Opinion's short-form vertical video. You have experience leading groundbreaking, original reporting, an eye for innovation, and can lead a team producing original video commentary and reporting across a range of subjects and formats.


You also have experience making sound editorial decisions, crafting original ideas, managing the work of journalists and editors, and will be the go‑to resource for colleagues, providing editorial guidance and constructive feedback. You are comfortable working in a newsroom environment under intense pressure and will ensure that fellow team members are meeting deadlines.


This is an in‑office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.


Responsibilities



  • Guide reporting, approve casting, frame and advance stories

  • Edit scripts and re-writes

  • Provide notes in edit and rough cut stages

  • Creative ideation and visual invention

  • Review, critique stories

  • Ensure smooth production with clear deliverables and deadlines

  • Guide and encourage producers to work to their maximum potential

  • Produce original video and experiment with new video formats

  • Manage the work of a team of journalists and editors

  • Demonstrate support and understanding of the value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

  • You will report to the Executive Producer, Opinion Shows


Basic Qualifications



  • 8+ years producing digital news videos

  • 3+ years managing direct reports

  • Broad knowledge of current events and news

  • Deep curiosity about video habits and users and platforms

  • Familiar with digital storytelling formats


Preferred Qualifications



  • Hands‑on experience in production, including editing, shooting and field production

  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills


The annual base pay range for this role is $140,000—$160,000 USD.


For roles in the U.S., you may be eligible for variable pay such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
