Participate in the planning and delivery of special events, festivals, and specialized programs held on weekends at the Suffolk County Farm and Education Center. Provide engaging educational opportunities for the general public during weekends, evenings and school holidays. Contribute to program development by offering input on program delivery, evaluation, marketing, and community engagement strategies related to weekend family and public education. Prepare and deliver all programs outlined in the current Field Trips and Outreaches brochure, both on‑site and in off‑site settings such as schools, libraries, and community organizations. Assist with the coordination and implementation of birthday parties and family programs. Support the execution of festivals and special events, and contribute to the day‑to‑day operations of Farm Education programs.
This is a part‑time (20 hours per week) position.
Required Qualifications
Associates Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Education, or other related fields, or High School Diploma and 2 years volunteer or work experience.
One year of paid or volunteer experience working with children and the public.
Ability to learn how to drive van and horse trailer and truck and livestock trailer, with initial training provided if necessary.
Ability to lift 10-20 pounds unassisted.
Ability to maintain and handle live farm animals for educational and demonstration purposes.
Ability to drive tractor, with initial training provided if necessary.
Ability to pass motor vehicle screen, including valid driver's license.
Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Education, or other related fields.
Additional education and training in the field of education.
Additional education in agriculture, animal sciences, natural sciences, human development, and consumer sciences.
Additional teaching experience related to academic areas listed above.
Experience teaching subjects related to agriculture, animal sciences, natural sciences, human development, and consumer sciences.
Experience working with at‑risk populations.
Experience creating and implementing programming.
Salary and Schedule
Salary: $18–20 per hour. Schedule: NONEXEMPT – Reg: 20 Hours. No relocation or VISA Sponsorship available.
