PAINTER I

Job Description and Duties

Scrape, sand and fill surfaces in preparation for painting and finishing.

Apply undercoats and finish coats with brush or spray machines.

Paper hang and match paints and finishes.

Clean and maintain brushes and other equipment.

Paint simple designs.

Estimate the cost of painting jobs.

Advise in the selection, ordering, and storing of painting materials.

Consult with other tradespeople.

Keep simple records and make reports.

Instruct and lead unskilled assistants; may instruct, lead or supervise patient/client workers or other work as required.

Working Conditions
Physical labor is an essential component of most Plant Operations related conditions. The incumbent must be physically capable of demonstrating proper technique, performing work in the absence of subordinates, and personally performing the more complex or sensitive technical tasks. At minimum, this requires full range of body motion to access work locations. The incumbent must be able to go up and down stairs and ladders, traverse crawl spaces under buildings and above ceilings, and descend into excavations, bringing with them the necessary tools and supplies.

Minimum Requirements

PAINTER I

Salary: $4,930.00 - $5,901.00 per Month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.

Desirable Qualifications

Must possess a driver’s license.

Physical ability to drive Paint shop vehicles and operate power tools safely and effectively.

Experience in painting surfaces and finishing.

All state civil service employees are currently subjected to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP), which entails a reduction in monthly gross salary but provides PLP leave credits in lieu of Pay through June 20, 2027. The amount of salary reduction is dependent upon the classification and associated union Bargaining Unit (BU).
