Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Operations and Maintenance Department manager, the skilled level painter is responsible for preparing surfaces, applying primers, coatings, and paints to the interior and exterior finishes of campus facilities. Duties include exterior building washing, interior and exterior painting of walls, floors, and ceilings, and maintaining painting equipment.
Responsibilities
Painting – 50%
– Prepare surfaces by sanding, sandblasting, scraping, cleaning; patch and repair sheetrock or plaster; apply spray texture to ceilings and walls; caulk interior joints and seams; apply coatings, paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior surfaces; paint walls, floors, and ceilings with brushes, rollers, and spray guns; varnish, stain, shellac, and finish desks, doors, cabinets, moldings, and floors; apply exterior caulking, trim windows and doors, scrape and glaze windows, and apply exterior waterproofing coatings.
Washing/Cleaning – 30%
– Wash exterior windows, building walls, and patios; wash interior windows and surfaces as applicable.
Compliance – 5%
– Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Inventory – 10%
– Maintain work area and paint shop; stock supplies and manage waste generated from tasks; mix paint; clean and organize tools and equipment; set up and break down ladders and scaffolding required for painting tasks.
Other duties as assigned or required to meet the goals of the department and university.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to operate a computer or iPad to receive and send email and submit work orders.
Valid driver’s license.
One to three years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Vocational or technical training in a related field of study.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to operate scissor lifts, telescopic lifts, vehicles or carts, and pressure washers; handle constant manual labor including carrying 25 lbs consistently and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally in varying outdoor weather conditions.
Organize tools and materials; thin or mix stains, paints, and coatings.
Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures; read technical manuals and SDS sheets.
Work in extreme environmental conditions (cold, heat, noise, vibration, chemical exposure) as required by job duties.
Knowledge of glazing windows, safety requirements for weather, equipment and chemicals.
Skill in painting with brushes, rollers, and spray guns; selecting, mixing, and applying paint and associated products; surface preparation, staining, sealing, and priming techniques.
Proposed Salary
Pay Grade 4 – $26,777.00 to $35,900.00, based on experience.
