News Technician - Photographer

Position
WJZ-TV CBS Baltimore has an immediate opening for a full‑time News Photojournalist. Duties include shooting and editing news stories to support newsgathering for linear, digital, and streaming platforms. The role also involves setting up live shots, working independently or alongside reporters, and maintaining high journalistic standards in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot minor equipment problems in the field and perform basic vehicle maintenance.

Apply a positive, problem‑solving approach to all tasks.

Work in a variety of conditions depending on the news cycle and assignment.

Edit on Grass Valley’s non‑linear system (Edius) and produce a 2‑minute package within 30 minutes; create natural sound packages when possible.

Edit content for social platforms creatively, to a high standard, and with attention to detail.

Use GoPro cameras and incorporate them into daily storytelling.

Manage and ingest media efficiently through file‑sharing systems and on‑site ingest stations.

Be willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays.

FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone certification is a major plus; certification will be provided if not already held.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field preferred, with 3–5 years of photography/editing experience in a newsroom.

Ability to operate bonded cellular equipment and willingness to train/operate an ENG live van.

Valid driver’s license in good standing.

Physical ability to lift, handle, and work with equipment up to 50 pounds.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $60,000.00 – $65,000.00 (adjusted for geography).
