University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is dedicated to excellence in providing physical, mental health, dental, and sex offender treatment services to those involved in the criminal justice system in New Jersey. UCHC operates with a total budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff.
Position Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full‑Time Technician I for Bayside State Prison located in Leesburg, NJ. The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the prison.
Responsibilities
Take vital signs, height, and weight and document in electronic medical records (EMR).
Assist the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing inmates for examination.
Obtain specimen collection and handling, including, but not limited to, drawing blood.
Assist with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
Maintain or assist in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner.
Maintain the supply stock in the examination rooms.
Aggregate the orders of all medications and forward to the pharmacy provider or local pharmacy.
Qualifications
Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification required.
At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill, and abilities and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the position.
Certifications and Licenses
CPR Certification.
Valid driver’s license required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation between sites.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
