Position Summary
The Coordinator of Social Media Marketing works on the UTEP Creative Services team to create content and cultivate the creation of content by UTEP ambassadors for social media with the specific purpose of undergraduate student recruitment. The coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Editorial Services.

Key Responsibilities

Create and manage the creation of social media content for UTEP‑owned channels to support recruitment goals through awareness and conveyance of recruitment‑specific strategic messages.

Set up online social media groups for prospect cohorts and serve as an online community manager for those groups.

Develop and execute a student ambassador program that encourages students to share their UTEP student experiences on social media and coach those students in content creation and network distribution.

Monitor and evaluate recruitment‑oriented social media marketing activity with a priority on recruitment.

Assisting Editorial Services in creating social media marketing materials in support of university goals (including event promotion, fundraising, and other).

Collaborate and coordinate with the Assistant Director of Digital Content on the Media Relations team to ensure maximum synergy on UTEP’s institutional channels.

Define KPIs and provide regular reporting on social media marketing efforts to marketing and enrollment management leadership.

Ensure UTEP complies with all governing policies, regulations, and laws in social media marketing.

Support the Assistant Director of Digital Content in providing social media training to authorized UTEP users.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and the ability to learn and use institutional software systems.

Comply with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Skills and Experience

Expert‑level familiarity with Instagram and TikTok.

High‑level familiarity with Facebook, X, and LinkedIn.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate well with undergraduate and prospective undergraduate populations.

Ability to create reels and other short‑form social media content.

Familiarity with best practices regarding social media influencers.

Related experience in managing online volunteers and influencers.

Understanding of KPI concepts.

Excellent writing skills, particularly short‑form and online genres.

Performance Metrics

Growth in reach, engagement, and recruitment‑oriented actions (link clicks, event RSVPs, applications started) from social channels.

Volume and quality of student‑generated content through the ambassador program.

Quality and timeliness of KPI reports and insights delivered to leadership.

Effectiveness of content in authentically conveying UTEP student experiences.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field required.

Experience:

1–3 years of experience in social media content creation and community management, preferably in higher education or recruitment marketing.
