Overview

The Director of Marketing & Sales is responsible for leading the commercial strategy of Riviera Palm Springs, with direct oversight of the sales department and primary accountability for driving luxury leisure demand, luxury consortia relationships, and resort programming that elevates positioning, guest experience, and revenue performance. This role also oversees all marketing, public relations, and brand positioning efforts for the resort.
As a senior commercial leader, this individual will be responsible for developing and executing integrated sales, marketing, and PR strategies that drive topline revenue, strengthen market presence, and support the resort's positioning as a leading luxury destination in Palm Springs. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in luxury hospitality, leisure sales, consortia partnerships, experiential programming, and cross-functional leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership
Lead and oversee the resort's sales department, including setting strategic direction, establishing goals, and holding the team accountable to performance standards.
Ensure the sales team is proactively driving revenue across all key segments, including group, transient, catering, and leisure.
Partner closely with revenue management to align sales strategy with pricing, need periods, pace, and profit optimization.
Review booking activity, sales pipelines, and account production to ensure the resort is pursuing the right business at the right value.
Coach, develop, and mentor members of the sales team to improve effectiveness, accountability, and overall performance.

Luxury Leisure & Consortia Focus

Serve as the primary commercial leader for luxury leisure business, with strong emphasis on consortia, retail travel agency, travel advisor, and high-end leisure partnerships.
Develop and maintain relationships with key luxury consortia and travel network partners, including but not limited to American Express FHR, Virtuoso, Signature, Ensemble, Internova, and other relevant luxury channels.
Create and execute annual leisure sales strategies to increase qualified luxury transient demand and improve ADR, length of stay, and total guest spend.
Represent the resort in luxury leisure sales missions, trade events, industry functions, and market appointments.
Identify and cultivate partnerships that enhance brand visibility and drive high-value leisure business to the resort.

Resort Programming & Positioning

Lead the development of programming strategies that differentiate the resort in the market and enhance guest engagement.
Partner with operations, food and beverage, spa, and resort leadership to curate compelling on-property experiences, events, and seasonal programming aligned with the resort's luxury positioning.
Ensure programming supports both revenue generation and brand storytelling.
Evaluate programming performance and guest response to refine offerings and improve overall commercial impact.
Marketing Leadership

Oversee all marketing strategies and execution for the resort, including digital marketing, content strategy, paid media, promotions, collateral, website support, email marketing, and social media direction.
Ensure all marketing efforts are aligned with the resort's positioning, target audience, and revenue objectives.
Partner with internal stakeholders and external agencies to develop integrated marketing campaigns that drive awareness, engagement, and conversion.
Review campaign performance and marketing ROI regularly, adjusting strategy as needed to maximize results.
Ensure brand standards, voice, and visual identity are consistently maintained across all guest-facing materials and channels.

Public Relations Oversight

Oversee public relations strategy and agency management to ensure the resort maintains strong visibility in the luxury travel, lifestyle, and hospitality space.
Partner with PR agencies and key stakeholders to develop story angles, media outreach plans, press visits, and launch strategies that support the resort's positioning and business goals.
Support key announcements, partnerships, programming launches, and repositioning milestones through effective PR planning and execution.
Track PR performance, media placements, and share of voice to evaluate effectiveness.

Cross-Functional Leadership

Work closely with operations, revenue management, finance, food and beverage, and ownership to ensure commercial strategies are aligned across the resort.
Develop, mentor, and lead the sales team through ongoing coaching, talent development, and performance management to build a high-performing commercial organization.
Serve as a senior leader of the resort and an active member of the executive team, helping shape overall property strategy, culture, and business performance.
Participate in budget development, forecasting, and strategic planning processes related to topline revenue, marketing expenses, and commercial investments.
Provide regular reporting and strategic updates on sales performance, leisure production, marketing initiatives, PR activity, and market trends.
Serve as a key leader in the overall repositioning and long-term commercial success of the resort.

Qualifications

Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in hotel sales and marketing, with significant experience in luxury hospitality.
Proven success in luxury leisure sales, consortia partnerships, and destination resort marketing.
Demonstrated experience leading hotel marketing and PR strategy, including agency management.
Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
Experience working collaboratively with revenue management to drive both topline revenue and profitability.
Ability to think strategically while also driving execution and accountability.
Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, and ROI evaluation.

Preferred Experience

Resort repositioning, rebranding, or major renovation relaunches.
Established relationships within the luxury travel advisor and consortia community.
Experience overseeing both property-level sales teams and external marketing/PR partners.
Background in experiential luxury, lifestyle, or destination resort environments.
