Overview

Seasonal position at SeaWorld – join our Howl‑O‑Scream Scare Team at SeaWorld San Diego and help bring joy, excitement, and lasting memories to guests worldwide.
Roles and Responsibilities

As a Howl‑O‑Scream Scare Actor (Performer II), you will:
Deliver spine‑tingling performances and scares to thrill‑seeking guests.
Participate in award‑winning scare events.
Attend exclusive employee‑only events such as ride nights and special previews.
Collaborate with the production team to elevate Howl‑O‑Scream at SeaWorld San Diego.
Form lifelong bonds within the SeaWorld Entertainment community.
Scare Actor Types

Haunted House Performers – stationary and active roles, some scripted dialogue required.
Pathway Scare Performers – roaming and interactive positions on guest pathways.
M.C./Event Host/Vignette Performers – scripted, high‑energy characters for stage or street events.
Specialty Performers – contortionists, sliders, and stilt walkers (drywall‑style stilts).
DJs – live mixing experience preferred.
Auditions

Auditions are live & in‑person, held at the Hubbs Research Institute, 2595 Ingraham St., San Diego, CA 92109.
July 16 – Thursday, regular and specialty role auditions, 6pm – 8pm.
July 23 – Thursday, regular and specialty role auditions, 6pm – 8pm.
For specialty roles (MC/Host, Vignettes, Stilt Walker, Slider, Contortionist, DJ) bring headshot, resume, and a 60‑second villainous monologue tailored to the role(s) you wish to be considered for.
Availability

Must have flexible availability every week Thursdays through Sundays, throughout the scheduled dates of the event. Howl‑O‑Scream 2026 runs Friday, September 11 – Sunday, November 1.
Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Animated, fun, and outgoing personality.
Previous guest experience in a high‑volume capacity preferred.
Ability to openly accept performance feedback and adapt accordingly.
Capability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, while maintaining professionalism and performance skills.
Ability to work varying shifts and hours based on park operational schedule – including opening and closing shifts and after‑hour rehearsals.
Consistently and expertly executes stage direction and show content as directed by Event and Show Producers and Entertainment Leadership.
Previous experience in Theme Park Entertainment, Dance, Theatre, or related field is preferred.
Comfortable working with atmospheric effects (strobes, fog, smoke, haze, mist, bubbles, snow, scents, etc.).
Positive interaction with park guests and team members of all ages, ethnicities, cultures, languages, and individuals with special needs.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Ability to stand, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time.
Engagement in physical activities such as kneeling, squatting, bending floor‑to‑waist/waist‑to‑overhead, reaching overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, laying down, and/or jumping repeatedly throughout the shift.
Comfortable wearing multi‑layered clothing, face masks (partial or full), wigs, and other theatrical costuming.
Vocalizations such as sudden screams, gasps, wails, and vocal manipulation are part of the job.
Flexible work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities.
Team player mindset is essential for success as a Scare Squad Performer.
Compensation

USD 19.00 per hour.
