RELATIONSHIP MANAGER II
Responsible for acquiring small business and personal clients and deepening existing relationships with the intent of integrating both business & personal clients. Acts as a trusted strategic advisor, providing financial advice and consistently connecting client needs with City National Bank’s products and service offerings. Implements a disciplined sales and service practice focused on acquisition of new relationships as well as retention and expansion of existing relationships in the portfolio, working with other areas of the bank to ensure exemplary service for clients. Key measures of success include acquisition of new personal and small business clients, deposit and fee income growth, loan and line volume, risk management, and community presence activities that generate the aforementioned volumes and represent City National with polished professionalism.

A primary focus on new and existing client acquisition, portfolio management, exceptional client experience, and business expansion while maintaining regulatory compliance and risk management.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Acquire & deepen client relationships by generating new business and consumer client relationships within assigned client segments.

Manage a portfolio of existing clients and actively deepens client relationships through cross‑selling efforts.

Deliver an exceptional & consistent client experience, ensuring client needs are met and escalations resolved appropriately.

Continuously develop stronger banking acumen and sales practices through collaboration and training.

Use data insights to provide sound financial advice, conducting discovery activities to grow deposits, investments, and credit.

Maintain awareness of updates to policies and procedures, staying within delegated lending authorities and ensuring decisions comply with all bank policies and regulations.

Partner with collaborators to meet client needs by introducing them to the appropriate partner in the bank ecosystem.

Interact professionally with all levels of bank personnel, clients, and corporate stakeholders.

Network and be visible in the community, representing the bank in civic, community affairs, business, industry-related organizations, and professional activities.

Comply fully with all operational and credit policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., Bank Secrecy Act, Know Your Client, Community Reinvestment Act, Fair Lending Practices, Code of Conduct).

Provide client‑centric relationship management, understanding client realities and growth ambitions, earning trust, and stewarding the relationship with tailored advice and solutions.

Nurture existing relationships, create new connections, and win new business through best practices, networking, and relationship building.

Collaborate with partners in GRM and other divisions to win business and progress towards shared goals.

Communicate effectively, listening actively to understand client needs and conveying the bank’s value proposition.

Apply critical thinking to analyze situations and translate insights into tailored advice.

Adaptability to manage ambiguity and pivot to advise clients as necessary.

Self‑organization and effectiveness to prioritize activities and deliver a consistent, exceptional client experience.

Conduct business in a highly proficient, polished manner fitting expectations of preferred clients such as corporate executives.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Minimum 5 years of direct sales experience.

Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial institution.

Good standing under the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (Safe Act) and registered/licensed with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, or capable of registration under the Safe Act.

Additional Qualifications

Deep knowledge of banking products for personal and business clients, particularly those catering to preferred and small business clients.

Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and compliance, including deep knowledge of CIP and KYC.

Understanding of the economic environment and its impact on clients.

Ability to review financial statements to assess a client’s financial health and advise accordingly.

Negotiation skills to maintain profitable relationships that balance bank and client needs.

Knowledge of bank policies, procedures, and regulatory obligations.

Compensation
Starting base salary: $71,869 - $114,797 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This position is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
