Director of Television Engineering
Location: 25 South Stockton Street, Trenton, NJ. Salary: $130,000 – $160,000 per year.
Overview
The New Jersey Department of the Treasury, Public Broadcasting Authority (NJPBA) seeks a Director of Television Engineering to manage statewide broadcast engineering operations for seven licensed NCE television stations. The role provides 24‑hour technical and administrative support for all NJPBA broadcast facilities, oversees strategic planning and capital budgeting, and serves as the technical liaison among the NJPBA Engineering Department, Treasury, state agencies, and tenants sharing NJPBA facilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide 24‑hour technical and administrative support for all NJPBA broadcast facilities.
- Strategic planning and capital budget development for broadcast operations.
- Serve as Chief Operator, supervising FCC‑required documentation: Station Logs, EAS Logs, Transmitter Logs, and the Public File.
- Oversee NJPBA vertical assets (towers) and associated structural documentation.
- Manage contractors at all facilities and administer tower‑tenant agreements, including contract development, renewal, Board resolution preparation, and accounts receivable support.
- Oversee broadcast‑related IT infrastructure, IP‑based signal distribution systems, and cybersecurity compliance.
- Project management duties: budgeting, design, procurement, equipment installation, and staff training.
- Work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and during declared weather emergencies; lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Licenses & Certifications : FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License or Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) certification (CBT, CBTE, or CPBE) is most desirable.
- Experience : 5–7 years as a maintenance or broadcast engineer at a television station.
- Technical Skills : Proficiency with IP‑based broadcast infrastructure (SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, JPEG‑XS), ATSC 1.0 transmission systems, solid‑state transmitter operations, EAS CAP‑compliant alerting systems, UDP/RTP and ASI transport streams, video encoding/decoding equipment.
- Strong computer and networking skills; cybersecurity awareness.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows OS, Linux, and AutoCAD LT.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and during declared weather emergencies.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Independent work under deadlines and time constraints.
Eligibility Information
- Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Ideal candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be prepared to provide writing samples.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license required.
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for accreditation by a reputable service at the applicant’s expense and included by the closing date.

- Must reside in New Jersey; if not, must relocate and maintain residence within one year after appointment.
