Position Summary
Serves as a career advisor within the School of Communications, providing professional development support to students and alumni through one‑on‑one appointments, drop‑in meetings, classroom presentations, and workshops. The role works closely with the Associate Director of Corporate and Employer Relations and the Director of Internships to develop and implement programs that help students successfully navigate career exploration and achieve their first professional destinations.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field. Minimum one year of related work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience
Experience in career services or academic advising in higher education, communications, or recruiting/human resources in industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in higher education or industry preferred; outstanding oral and written communication skills essential. Ability to mentor undergraduates and coordinate/facilitate programs and events. Solid understanding of career development theory, job‑search strategies, and market trends for Communications majors. Strong relationship‑building and collaboration skills with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and senior administrators. High organization, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment.

Job Duties

Meet one‑on‑one with undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni to provide career advising, including resume reviews, cover letter reviews, mock interviews, offer discussions, networking, job search, internship search, and career and major exploration.

Develop and deliver high‑quality programs, events, and workshops, including classroom presentations, to help Communications students explore majors, careers, networking, and internship or full‑time job searches.

Assist in creating marketing content, maintaining online and web resources, and sharing event and employment opportunities with students, faculty, and staff.

Collaborate with School of Communications faculty, SPDC career development staff, and other campus staff to support campus‑wide career programming.

Promote inclusive community building by fostering relationships and mentoring within a residential campus environment, and by encouraging participation in campus activities, professional development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
