Expected compensation: 93.50 USD Per Hour

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a Craftsmanship Engineer to help define and elevate vehicle craftsmanship across product development. In this role, you’ll establish craftsmanship standards aligned with the company’s design DNA, product vision, and user experience goals. You’ll define measurable vehicle-level craftsmanship targets and collaborate cross-functionally to embed craftsmanship requirements throughout the product development lifecycle. This work will span dimensional quality, interface execution, sensory experiences, and overall product refinement to ensure a premium and cohesive customer experience. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative and detail-oriented engineering professional with deep experience driving craftsmanship standards within automotive or transportation product development environments.

Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional efforts to embed craftsmanship requirements early in the product development process.

Define and develop measurable vehicle-level craftsmanship targets aligned with product vision and brand standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish achievable quality targets across multiple customer touchpoints.

Drive alignment on dimensional quality, interface execution, auditory quality, haptic feedback, olfactory experience, and functional quality standards.

Contribute to the development of grey-zone execution, cabin scent strategy, ambient lighting, NVH targets, active sound characteristics, and color/material/trim quality.

Develop and maintain craftsmanship target documentation, tracking systems, measurement tools, virtual evaluation methods, and physical validation artifacts.

Promote a continuous improvement mindset, ensuring craftsmanship enhances brand perception and customer trust throughout the full product lifecycle.

Regularly communicate progress, risks, and key decisions to leadership, including the director of geometric integration.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in product design, engineering, or a related discipline

10+ years of craftsmanship engineering experience within the automotive or transportation industry

5+ years of experience leading cross-functional forums and driving technical decision-making

Extensive knowledge of visual, tactile, olfactory, auditory, and functional quality principles

Experience developing craftsmanship targets, measurement strategies, virtual evaluation methods, and validation tools

Proven experience defining craftsmanship objectives, deliverables, and gateway milestones throughout product development

Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills

Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced product development environment

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree in Product Design or an Engineering discipline

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. The role is hybrid, requiring at least three days per week onsite, and is available to candidates local to the Foster City, CA area.
