Job Overview
Working Title: Design Supervisor – Engineering Specialist Senior (Engineering Specialist Senior) – Transportation Department, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Salary Range: $35.48 – $52.27 hourly ($74,082 – $109,139 annually). Full‑time, day shift position. Telework eligible: up to 2 days per week.
Responsibilities
Provide civil engineering leadership and technical guidance for the delivery of programmed design projects. Maintain appropriate QA/QC processes, ensure overall design quality and compliance with MnDOT, state and federal procedures, practices, regulations, and standards. Assist District 4 Project Managers and Engineers with technical direction and guidance in the design portion of projects. Review detailed construction plans to ensure correct program execution and compliance.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of advanced para-engineering experience at the Engineering Specialist level (or equivalent) demonstrating:
Knowledge of design processes and procedures, including geometric design standards, policies, and concepts, geometric layouts, and the content and organization of construction plans for highway transportation projects.
Experience with 3‑D Design processes and procedures, including corridor modeling for construction plan preparation.
Leadership skills and experience sufficient to provide technical expertise and guidance to transportation design personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with OpenRoads Designer, corridor modeling, and other design/project management software.
Knowledge of MnDOT Utility Accommodation and Cooperative Agreement Policies.
Experience with MicroStation, Geopak, corridor modeling, and/or other design/project management software sufficient to problem‑solve, guide, and train MnDOT users in plan preparation.
Knowledge of MnDOT Policies, Procedures, Highway Project Development Process (HPDP), including scoping documents and environmental documentation, state and federal laws, and statutory and regulatory requirements.
Additional Requirements
