About the Campaign
Matt Dunlap is the Democratic nominee for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, running to stand up for working families, bring down healthcare costs, and take on the powerful interests rigging the system against everyday Mainers. Maine’s 2nd is one of the most closely watched races in the country, and we’re building a scrappy, disciplined team to win it. We’re looking for a hard‑working, get‑it‑done operative who can run our field program and keep the campaign firing on all cylinders.
Position Summary
The Deputy Campaign Manager / Field Director is the campaign’s utility player and second set of hands to the Campaign Manager. You’ll own the field program end‑to‑end while keeping the campaign organized internally, moving the candidate efficiently, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. This is a role for someone who thrives on long days, tight timelines, and doing whatever it takes to win.
Core Responsibilities
Assist the Campaign Manager with daily operations and keep the campaign organized internally
Serve as an internal point of coordination across departments (field, comms, finance, digital)
Track deadlines, deliverables, and follow‑ups to keep the team accountable and on schedule
Manage campaign inventory and logistics (literature, signs, supplies, event materials)
Scheduling & Candidate Operations
Manage and maintain the candidate’s and campaign’s schedule
Staff the candidate at events, meetings, and public appearances, ensuring he is briefed, on time, and prepared
Coordinate travel, logistics, and day‑of run‑of‑show for candidate events
Press & Events
Organize press conferences and campaign events from logistics through execution
Coordinate with the communications team on event messaging, turnout, and press logistics
Coalition & Stakeholder Relations
Interface with endorsers, elected officials, and organization/labor leadership
Manage relationships and follow‑up with key coalition partners and community stakeholders
Help coordinate surrogate appearances and endorsement rollouts
Digital & Communications Support
Assist with implementation of the campaign’s social media and digital strategy
Help capture content (photos/video) from the field and events
Field Program
Build and run the campaign’s field program across the district
Deliver and distribute yard signs, palm cards, and literature district‑wide
Help recruit, train, and manage volunteers, fellows, and field organizers
Help plan and execute canvasses, phone banks, and voter contact operations
Qualifications
At least one prior cycle of campaign experience or a strong organizing/field background
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to juggle multiple priorities under pressure
Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with elected officials, partners, and volunteers
Familiarity with voter file/VAN, and comfort with data and metrics
Willing to work long hours, nights, and weekends through Election Day
Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel throughout the district
Based in or willing to relocate to the Bangor, Maine area for the duration of the campaign
Commitment to the campaign’s values and to electing Matt Dunlap
Preferred
Demonstrated ability to run a field or voter‑contact program
Prior experience in Maine or a similar rural/mixed district
Volunteer management and staff supervision experience
Familiarity with digital organizing tools and social media content creation
