The City of Brooklyn Park is seeking an energetic and inclusive
Communications Associate
to lead our city-facing social media initiatives by creating a cohesive voice for the City across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
In this dynamic role, you are responsible for ensuring our digital content reflects and engages all segments of our community by collaborating on high-impact video productions, writing compelling copy, designing graphics, and handling the creative layout of our digital publications.
Engage with online communications, manage social media accounts, and analyze metrics to optimize social media presence.
Develop engaging and shareable content tailored for various social media platforms to increase city visibility and engagement.
Plan social media campaigns to drive traffic, leads, and conversions.
Build relationships with the audience by responding to comments and messages to assist with building a positive brand image.
Monitor social media metrics, analyze campaign performance and provide regular reports to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies.
Format reports and/or publications for print.
Prepare department reports and budget books.
Provide website management.
Create new webpages, edit webpages, and copywriting.
Assist communication leadership in developing a strategic plan that aligns with the overall marketing objectives.
Stay up to date on social media trends, algorithms, changes, and industry developments to adapt strategies.
Assist with internal and external communication projects.
Create social media and digital graphics.
Copywriting for social media, emails and newsletters.
Capture and edit video content for events and advertising.
Photograph events for social media content and edit photos.
Support department communications for Police, Fire, Public Works, Community Development, Finance, Administration and Recreation & Parks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
Associate degree in a related field.
Experience
One (1) year experience in creating social media content, graphic design, or communications.
License/Certification
Valid driver license.
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Technical ability to work on a MAC or PC.
Technical ability to run a DSLR professional video camera and knowledge of lighting and audio.
Ability to independently manage time and balance competing priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
Ability to convey information clearly and adapt messaging for multicultural audiences.
Conceptualize and produce visually appealing, innovative content that captures audience attention.
Knowledge of HTML.
Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Google Analytics.
Knowledge of website Content Management Systems (CMS), specifically WordPress.
Knowledge of video editing software.
Deep understanding and knowledge of social media sites such as Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and social media management tools such as Hootsuite.
Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction, both internally and externally.

Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Desired Qualifications
Two or more years of highly related experience in film, graphic design, web content management and social media platforms.
Adobe Cloud experience.
Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese language(s).
