International Multimedia Journalist – V (Senior Reporter / Presenter / Producer)

Position Summary

Serves as a senior-level journalist, presenter, and producer responsible for leading high-impact editorial coverage, beat reporting, and special programming initiatives for Voice of America across television, radio, digital, and social media platforms. Functions as a senior editorial resource within the newsroom and provides leadership in coverage execution, breaking news coordination, and enterprise reporting without exercising supervisory authority. This is a highly experienced journalist position intended for senior correspondents, lead beat reporters, and senior on‑air talent with extensive editorial judgment and subject matter expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads major editorial beats, coverage areas, or specialized reporting initiatives as assigned
  • Serves as senior reporter, presenter, anchor, or program host for television, radio, digital, and social media programming
  • Produces and delivers high-impact breaking news, enterprise reporting, interviews, feature stories, and special coverage
  • Develops original reporting angles, investigative content, and long‑form storytelling projects
  • Coordinates editorial coverage efforts with producers, reporters, assignment editors, and newsroom leadership during major news events
  • Provides editorial guidance and subject matter expertise within assigned beat or specialty area without exercising supervisory authority
  • Represents VOA in high‑profile interviews, live coverage, panels, and special events as assigned
  • Conducts complex interviews with senior officials, experts, analysts, and newsmakers
  • Writes, edits, adapts, translates, versions, and produces content for broadcast, web, streaming, and social media platforms
  • Performs live reporting and breaking news coverage under deadline pressure across multiple platforms simultaneously
  • Participates in the creation, development, and execution of regularly scheduled or special programming initiatives
  • Contributes to editorial planning, story selection, coverage strategy, and programming direction for assigned beats or coverage areas
  • As assigned, serves as lead producer during major coverage events and special programming
  • Produces finished broadcast and digital products meeting VOA standards for accuracy, balance, objectivity, and timeliness
  • Voices material for broadcasts and digital products, including material prepared by others
  • Contributes advanced production elements including scripting, fine editing, live production coordination, and field production
  • Serves as videographer/reporter as assigned
  • Performs technical functions including operation of production and field equipment as assigned
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of assigned subject matter, region, audience, or policy area
  • Provides mentorship, professional guidance, and editorial support to less experienced journalists and producers without supervisory responsibilities
  • Collaborates across language services and divisions on major global and U.S. policy coverage initiatives
  • Makes recommendations regarding newsroom workflow improvements, editorial innovation, and content strategy
  • Works independently with minimal supervision in highly complex and fast‑paced newsroom environments
  • Meets VOA standards for productivity, editorial quality, accuracy, and deadlines
  • Logs and conducts data entry and related functions connected with VOA’s digital asset management systems
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge Required

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Fluency in target language (written and spoken), if applicable
  • Extensive knowledge of assigned beat, target region, policy area, or subject matter specialty
  • Advanced understanding of journalism ethics, editorial standards, multimedia storytelling, and newsroom operations
  • Demonstrated expertise in live reporting, anchoring, production, and enterprise journalism
  • Ability to produce complex editorial content independently under significant deadline pressure
  • Advanced interview, writing, editing, presentation, and storytelling skills
  • Deep understanding of digital, broadcast, and social media production workflows
  • Specialized expertise or formal education in a field relevant to VOA’s mission and coverage priorities
