NEWS REPORTER

Overview
Location: Ottawa, IL

The Shaw Local News Network, publisher of The Times in Ottawa and NewsTribune in La Salle-Peru, is seeking a news reporter to share stories in print and broadcast mediums for the Illinois Valley region, which includes La Salle, Bureau, and Putnam counties.

Responsibilities

Generate many of your own story ideas and field assignments from editors.

Cover breaking news and write relevant community news stories with an eye toward enterprise.

Create and share stories for digital, broadcast, and print platforms.

Understand the importance of social media in serving the audience and write clear, concise copy.

Qualifications

A college degree in journalism or related field

Some experience or knowledge in broadcast journalism

Ability to shoot photographs and video as required

One-year professional reporting experience

Solid knowledge of AP Style and grammar

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and proof of insurance

Full-time: Monday–Friday, occasional weekends

Rate: $18 – $21.00 per hour
