Position Summary
The Multimedia Content Specialist - Social Media reports to the Visuals Team Lead and serves as a key visual storyteller for the University, creating compelling, digital-first content that advances institutional priorities and strengthens the Carolina brand. The role develops high-impact multimedia content with a social-first mindset, producing videos, photography, motion graphics, short-form content, and other digital assets optimized for social media, web and emerging platforms.
The specialist researches, plans, captures, edits and publishes multimedia content that tells authentic, engaging stories about the University's people, research, teaching and impact. The specialist creates platform-specific content that drives engagement, expands reach, and supports integrated marketing and communications campaigns across the University's official digital channels. Timely editorial decisions, identification of emerging storytelling opportunities and rapid adaptation to real-time events are expected, while maintaining brand standards and reputation.
The role also supports podcast development, recording, editing, promotional assets and social media campaigns to extend reach. Creative multimedia support for executive communications is provided, producing videos, photography and digital assets for the Chancellor and senior leaders.
Collaboration with writers, designers, marketers and strategists is essential to execute integrated campaigns, evaluate content performance using analytics, and refine content based on audience insights and evolving digital best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to communications, media, journalism, film, arts, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in creating social-first video and visual content.
Experience with multimedia production tools (e.g., video editing, photography, motion graphics).
Strong storytelling, communication and project management skills.
Ability to make timely editorial decisions and adapt to real-time events.
Schedule & Availability
Evening work occasionally, weekend work occasionally.
