Responsibilities
Create compelling and memorable newscasts.
Write creative headlines and teasers.
Maintain knowledge of current events, community issues, and local contacts.
Search wire services, network feeds, websites, and social media for relevant material.
Collaborate with news operations staff to build graphics.
Work with directors and anchors on story presentation.
Produce clear, concise, conversational writing.
Demonstrate solid news judgment and maintain strong journalistic ethics.
Research and brainstorm story ideas; present ideas in editorial meetings.
Generate promotable story ideas daily.
Post and update stories on the station website and social media; engage viewers.
Communicate with the web staff during breaking news.
Write news stories and assist producers in formatting newscasts.
Perform other job‐related duties as assigned.
Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of newsroom software and web posting software.
Strong research skills using various search engines.
Ability to stay current with national and local news/weather.
Experience engaging audiences on social media.
Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Leadership skills through training and mentoring of less experienced staff.
Positive attitude and ability to foster a collaborative work environment.
Video and audio editing on industry‑standard equipment.
Graphic building and effective use in shows.
Adaptability to last‑minute changes.
Quick, accurate decision‑making during the on‑air process.
Salary
$25.00 – $29.00 per hour, based on experience.
