What You’ll Do
Draft compelling, original, and informative copy for a range of communications and outreach materials including speeches, fact sheets, presentations, reports, and press releases.
Proofread, revise, and edit new and existing copy to ensure accuracy, well‑researched content, and alignment with client needs.
Maintain brand voice for consistency in messaging.
Research and understand client needs and target audiences using online searches, existing research, subject‑matter expert interviews, and in‑person meetings.
Collaborate with internal and external clients to understand content needs and propose copy concepts in an engaging and persuasive way.
Interpret creative direction and approach all projects with a creative eye and attention to detail.
Follow client‑adopted style guides for developing and editing copy.
Conduct high‑quality research and fact‑checking online and in-house, taking thorough notes.
Stay current on writing trends and materials produced by competitors.
Assist in other aspects of the creative or research processes to create cohesive, accurate content.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Creative Writing, Advertising, English, Journalism or related field and at least 3 years of relevant experience,
or, in lieu of education, 7 years of experience.
What You’ll Bring
Researching and writing news releases/alerts, creating and updating media contact lists, and compiling media kits.
Coaching other staff on written content.
Developing outlines for presentations and scripts, fact‑checking, and presenting outlines to more experienced staff.
Producing content for print and digital channels (e.g., social media, print, digital advertising, fact sheets) and reviewing content of less experienced staff.
Knowing HNTB and client style guides so as to make judgment calls to meet their requirements.
Using attention to detail and strong editorial judgment to proof creative and technical content before submitting to more experienced staff.
What We Prefer
Experience enhancing storytelling around a data‑oriented narrative.
Ability to take complex facts and concepts and successfully communicate them to new audiences.
Knowledge and experience using AP Style.
In‑depth knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word advanced formatting and editorial tools.
Sets a positive example of “what right looks like” for written communications.
