About Lan Su Chinese Garden
Lan Su Chinese Garden is one of Portland's greatest treasures and most interesting sites to see. A collaboration between the cities of Portland and Suzhou, China, Lan Su was built by Suzhou artisans and is one of the most authentic Chinese gardens outside of China.

Position Summary
Lan Su Chinese Garden is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Marketing Coordinator to support the development and implementation of Lan Su’s marketing and communications efforts.

Working as part of the Experience Department, this role helps:

Promote Lan Su

Attract visitors

Support membership and donor engagement

Strengthen Lan Su’s public image

The Marketing Coordinator assists with creating and distributing mission-driven, culture-inspired content across broadcast, print, and digital platforms while ensuring consistent and engaging storytelling that reflects the spirit of Lan Su.

Responsibilities
Support the Marketing & Communications Manager with projects that advance:

Event promotion

Cultural campaigns

Membership

Organizational initiatives

Brand awareness

Visitor attraction

Job Duties

Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop and implement content that tells Lan Su’s stories and strengthens the organization's brand.

Support the creation, design, and management of digital and print marketing materials, including:

Advertisements

Collateral

Visitor resources

Website

Social media

Capture, edit, and highlight key Lan Su moments—including milestone events, cultural programs and festivals, plant collections, teahouse experiences, and art exhibits—through photography, videography, and graphic assets.

Assist in tracking, analyzing, and reporting key performance indicators, including:

Social media growth

Website traffic

Email engagement

Media coverage

Assist in managing, editing, and monitoring:

Official website

Social media platforms

E-newsletters

Mobile app

Utilize software such as:

Canva

Adobe Creative Suite

MailChimp

WordPress

Other common marketing tools

Collaborate professionally with people and partners from diverse backgrounds.

Organize and archive digital and print assets using best practices.

Support major cultural campaigns, such as Lunar New Year.

Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a combination of experience, education, technical skills, and passion, including:

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).

Minimum one year of experience in marketing, copywriting, social media, or graphic design, preferably in a nonprofit or community-based organization.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite:

Photoshop

InDesign

Illustrator

Premiere Pro

Photography and video editing skills (including Canva and CapCut).

Experience with WordPress or similar content management systems.

Basic knowledge of:

SEO

Website content management

Web design best practices

Knowledge of:

Digital marketing

Social media strategy

Mailchimp

Preferred experience with Chinese social media platforms:

WeChat

Weibo

TikTok

Xiaohongshu (Red Note)

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to multitask.

Team-oriented mindset.

Familiarity with Chinese culture and language, or willingness to learn.

Commitment to professional and personal development.

Physical & Schedule Requirements

Ability to sit and type for extended periods.

Ability to stand and bend for more than 30 minutes during events.

Lift approximately 20 pounds occasionally.

Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
