Role Description
The Anchor/MMJ (Multi-Media Journalist) is a full-time, on-site position based in Palm Springs, CA. This role includes anchoring newscasts, reporting daily stories, and producing content for television, digital, and social platforms. Day-to-day responsibilities involve enterprise story generation, field reporting, shooting and editing video, writing scripts, and delivering accurate, engaging on-air presentations. The Anchor/MMJ will conduct interviews, cover breaking news, and collaborate with producers, photographers, and the newsroom team to ensure high-quality, audience-focused coverage. The role also involves contributing to KESQ.com and station social channels, maintaining strong journalistic standards, and representing the stations at community events when needed.
Qualifications
Strong broadcast journalism skills, including on-air anchoring, live reporting, and clear, engaging delivery.
Proficiency in reporting, writing scripts, and crafting compelling, accurate news stories for TV and digital platforms.
Ability to shoot and edit video, operate newsroom and field equipment, and work within modern newsroom systems.
Digital and social media skills, including posting web stories, creating multimedia content, and engaging audiences online.
Solid news judgment, adherence to ethical standards, and commitment to accuracy and fairness in reporting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work under deadline pressure and multitask.
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with producers, editors, photographers, and other newsroom colleagues.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Previous anchoring and MMJ or reporter experience in a newsroom environment preferred.
Familiarity with the Coachella Valley or Southern California news landscape is a plus; bilingual English/Spanish skills are beneficial.
