Position Description
This full‑time, benefited position leads Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma’s efforts to share the human stories behind the mission through strategic multimedia storytelling, earned media, and social media engagement.

This role requires an outgoing, tenacious, and self‑motivated communicator who can build trust across programs, recognize meaningful moments of impact, and determine which stories best reflect the heart of CCEOK’s mission. The position proactively identifies, captures, and shares stories from clients, volunteers, staff, donors, and community partners in ways that honor the dignity of those served while strengthening public awareness, deepening trust, and inspiring action.

Serving as a bridge between CCEOK programs and the broader community, this position ensures compelling written, photographic, and video content is consistently gathered and shared across earned media, social media, donor communications, campaigns, presentations, and other organizational platforms.

Ministerial Responsibilities

As a ministerial representative of CCEOK, maintain professional and personal conduct that aligns with the ethical and moral standards of the Catholic Church

Pray daily for the needs of the poor through personal prayer, daily Mass, and/or adoration

Be willing to learn and apply Catholic teaching in this role

Help foster a shared culture of ministry across program operations and management

Leadership

Lead the development and execution of a strategic storytelling, earned media, and social media plan aligned with organizational priorities

Serve as a communications bridge between CCEOK programs, the Development Department, organizational leadership, and the broader community

Build strong relationships across CCEOK programs to ensure impactful stories, mission moments, and emerging needs are consistently recognized and captured

Help prepare organizational leaders, program staff, clients, volunteers, and partners for media interviews, public storytelling opportunities, speaking engagements, and community-facing communications

Identify opportunities for Catholic Charities to participate in community conversations and thought leadership around poverty, food insecurity, housing instability, disaster response, and related issues

Support consistent messaging across departments by helping translate program work into clear, compelling, mission-centered communications

Exercise sound judgment in sensitive communications, crisis messaging, media opportunities, and stories involving vulnerable individuals

Track and report on social media and earned media performance, using key metrics and insights to evaluate visibility, engagement, and overall communications impact

Storytelling and Content Development

Proactively identify compelling stories from clients, volunteers, donors, staff, and community partners

Conduct interviews and gather written, photographic, and video content for organizational communications

Collaborate with contract videographer for larger video projects, helping define goals, storylines, timelines, interview needs, locations, approvals, and final deliverables

Create polished, mission-focused content for use across social media, donor communications, campaigns, presentations, annual reports, and other organizational materials

Ensure all storytelling, photography, video, and communications uphold the dignity, privacy, consent, and respect of those served

Maintain organized media libraries, including photos, videos, media releases, and storytelling assets

Media Relations and Public Awareness

Lead earned media efforts, including press releases, media pitches, interview coordination, and proactive outreach to local and regional media

Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and community influencers

Actively manage the organization’s social media efforts, platforms, and strategy

Assist with crisis communications and sensitive messaging as needed

Community Engagement and Organizational Support

Collaborate with the marketing team to adapt stories and multimedia content for social media campaigns, annual reports, presentations, donor communications, and other materials

Support volunteer engagement and donor stewardship through mission-centered storytelling and content

Represent Catholic Charities at community events, speaking engagements, tours, volunteer opportunities, and outreach initiatives

Qualifications / Education

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, media production, or related field

Minimum of three years of experience in communications, journalism, storytelling, multimedia production, social media, public relations, or nonprofit engagement

Exceptional writing, interviewing, editing, and storytelling skills

Experience creating digital and social media content that is engaging, mission-focused, and audience-appropriate

Ability to approach sensitive conversations with compassion, discretion, and professionalism, including inviting individuals in vulnerable situations to share their stories in a way that upholds their dignity, privacy, and personal agency

Experience measuring the effectiveness of social media and earned media efforts, including tracking engagement, reach, media placements, audience growth, website traffic, and campaign performance to inform future strategy

Proficiency with photography, video, and editing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, CapCut, or similar platforms

Experience securing earned media coverage and building media relationships

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and communicate compassionately with vulnerable populations

Ability to identify compelling stories and communicate organizational impact clearly and effectively

Strong organizational and project management skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
