JOB SUMMARY

The University of Missouri- St. Louis is seeking its next Social Media Manager to help share the UMSL story through its social media channels. This position will lead the strategic direction, planning, and content creation (including video, content accessibility, day-to-day management and assessment) for the university’s social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok. The role will work in partnership with units across campus including Enrollment, Advancement, and Academic Affairs to achieve better alignment with the UMSL brand across accounts while increasing UMSL’s visibility and engagement.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media Strategy, Management, and Analytics 40%

Manage and monitor the university’s institutional social media presence including distinct online communities on various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok, and more
Display a high level of professionalism and personal discretion, recognizing communication with the university’s external audiences could affect recruitment, fundraising, legislative relations, news coverage, and other reputation-related areas
Assist with boosts and occasional digital advertising placement on social channels
Review analytics and create reports on key metrics that drive strategy
Content Creation and Storytelling 30%

Plan and create a variety of content to support recruitment and retention efforts across all social media platforms
Develop video assets for UMSL in Motion in collaboration with the Public Relations team
Develop academic-focused stories featuring students and faculty
Attend select campus and student focused events to gather content for social media and UMSL
Daily Campus Partnerships, Consultation, and Training 20%

Collaborate with staff, faculty, and students to identify and prioritize effective content creation and storytelling opportunities to improve engagement and reach
Work closely with the Office of Enrollment Management and the Office of Advancement on critical initiatives
Work with, influence, and educate university stakeholders and other university social media managers about social media best practices, content accessibility standards, and communication strategies
Document social media policies and procedures and develop training materials for the campus community
Administrative Support 10%

Manage a student intern as available

Successful candidates will possess expanded conceptual knowledge of the Communications function; understand key business drivers to accomplish communications projects and initiatives; and have experience with and an enthusiasm for customer service.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a full-time, in-office position and work hours will be flexible to provide real-time posting of key university events and university responses as necessary. Work is primarily office-based with regular interaction with senior leaders, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. The role requires walking, standing, and site visits to create content, as well as extensive use of digital tools. The position involves sustained focused attention, creative brainstorming, and complex decision-making. Shift 40 hours/week, Monday thru Friday with occasional after hours responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor''s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communication, media studies, journalism, digital marketing, or related; at least three years of experience in professional social media or community management and an understanding of its various platforms and best practices.
Anticipated Hiring Range
