Art Sales/Marketing Consultant- Non-Profit
Art Marketing and Sales Consultant- Salmagundi Club, NYC
Four-Month Engagement | Approximately 20 Hours/Week | NYC-Based
Organization Overview
The Salmagundi Club, a 150-year-old fine arts organization located in Greenwich Village, seeks an experienced Art Marketing and Sales Consultant to increase visibility, engagement, and artwork sales for works in its exhibitions.
The Club is a historic arts society dedicated to skill-based fine art, often representational, and presents rotating exhibitions, member events, lectures, and public programs throughout the year.
Position Overview
This is a four-month independent contractor engagement (renewable based on successful deliverables) focused on selling the art in our exhibitions. The Consultant will use various channels for growing a base of interested collectors, and growing visitor traffic in support of art sales. That will require strong social media content creation and user engagement skills. It will also require art selling experience, preferably with collectors of representational art.
The Consultant will work with Club leaders but will operate independently to execute an agreed sales and marketing strategy and deliver results.
Because much work will be on site, engaging directly with the art and interested art buyers, the consultant will need to be able to be frequently on location in NYC.
Social Media Marketing & Content Creation
Develop and execute a sustained social media strategy to increase awareness and engagement of interested art buyers. Includes:
Film and edit content on-site using smartphone-based production tools (no elaborate production required).
Post and manage Instagram and Facebook content, campaigns
Draft and distribute email communications in support of art sales to Club mailing lists.
Increase Art Sales from our exhibitions. Likely to include:
Promoting exhibited artworks to prospective buyers via social media, email outreach, and personal follow‑up.
Developing existing and new relationships with collectors and influential players in the representational/figurative/skill-based art sphere among those likely to purchase art from our exhibitions.
Qualifications
Required
Experience in fine art sales (gallery, art fairs, auction house, or similar).
Ability to work independently without administrative support.
Preferred
Understanding of collector cultivation and art buyer engagement strategies, extending ideally even to an existing base of collectors with whom you have worked independently in the past.
Background in art history or fine art.
Familiarity with “classical contemporary” “contemporary realism” or “skill-based fine art”.
Engagement Terms
Duration:
Initial four-month engagement (renewable based on successful deliverables)
Time Commitment:
Approximately 20 hours per week as needed. Consultant is understood to have other consulting commitments throughout the consulting period.
Compensation
$13000 over 4 months paid monthly based on successful interim deliverables
5% commission on art sales
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate combines:
Marketing execution ability
A working knowledge of fine art and its market
Comfort working independently
Presents professionally in interactions with artists, collectors, and leadership
This is a hands‑on, creative, and results‑oriented engagement suited to someone who thrives in a classic arts non‑profit environment.
