MEPs — the producing and general management company behind The Hip Hop Nutcracker — is seeking a touring Audio/Video Technician for the show\'s upcoming national tour. This position leads audio and supports video elements on the road, and serves as the technical point person for each venue.
This position reports to the Production Manager, Head Electrician/TD, Video Team
Key Responsibilities
Support the production design teams during the rehearsal process
Prep, restock, and maintain production equipment and supplies for the run of the tour
Collaborate with the Production Manager and PSM during the venue advance process on tour, providing venues with complete and accurate information on the production needs, and submitting required paperwork on schedule
Work with the house audio plot at each stop to fit the venue\'s space, load-in schedule, available crew, while preserving the integrity of the original design
Set up, test, and troubleshoot the video playback system at each venue, including MIDI triggering through QLab; confirm video cues are mapped and syncing correctly with the performance track
Oversee audio load-in, notes, and load-out at every venue, adjusting mix and system tuning to match what\'s available on the road
Coordinate wireless microphone frequencies and RF coordination at each venue
Direct and check the work of local crew on audio equipment placement, cabling, and patch
Run a performance track as needed
Track departmental spending, inventory, and equipment condition throughout the tour
Cross-train with other departments to help cover gaps in crew availability
Support the load and unload of the truck at each stop
Ensure all rented equipment is maintained, and returned/packed for storage at tour\'s end
Keep all production paperwork current for archival purposes
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in theatrical audio and video, or equivalent
Experience supervising local crews, including IATSE house crews
Working knowledge of audio mixing consoles, signal flow, and wireless microphone/RF systems
Proficiency with QLab for audio and video playback, including MIDI triggering and cue mapping for video content, or comparable software
Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 100 lbs, stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and work at height (rigging speakers, running cable, and mounting video equipment)
Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable mentoring early-career crew members and working across diverse communities
Compensation & Logistics
Pay: $1,200/week
Housing: Provided for the duration of the tour
Travel: Travel will be by bus (overnight sleeper) and plane (pending length and time of jumps)
Pre-tour prep: Begins the week of October 26, 2026, (approx. two weeks prior to first performance)
Tour dates: November 8, 2026 – January 3, 2027 (approximately 21 cities)
