Communications Strategist
The Communications Strategist position requires an individual with the ability to reach key audiences and stakeholders through strategic communication tactics, in alignment with the Forward. Strategic plan. Additionally, the position will support campus partners in their marketing and communications needs, achieving objectives and outcomes that reinforce the University’s Forward. strategic plan, both internally and externally. The position is responsible for Interfacing with campus partners to clearly understand their objectives and outcomes, recommending appropriate communication and public relations strategies and tactics.
Communications specialist
Act as liaison between the Office of Marketing and Communications and assigned University colleges and departments for marketing and communications needs.
Develop communications in alignment with institutional and campus partners’ objectives, effectively reaching key audiences in elevating the institution’s reputation
Consult with and advise campus partners regarding projectand communicationsobjectives and outcomes
Work collaboratively with web developers, graphic designers, photographers, videographers, writers, social media team and advertising director on projects
Analyze results to determine effectiveness and refine future projects.
Marketing Project manager
Direct projects while meeting multiple deadlines that result in client satisfaction, maintaining quality control and consistent standards, conveying clearly the University’s image.
Establish project timelines, clearly communicate those to all collaborators, and ensure projects remain on schedule to ensure deadlines and project goals are met.
Input and correctly utilize the department’s project management system to facilitate work and collaboration with marketing team members, including web, graphic design, social media, media relations, photo/video and other staff.
Media Relations
Serve as member of the team that supports media requests. Work with appropriate faculty and staff to coordinate media interviews. Respond to media requests. Write and send press releases, as needed. Monitor media coverage.
Copywriter
Create compelling copy across multiple mediums that clearly communicates client and University objectives in a manner that appeals to defined audiences. This includes effective email copy and subject lines, clear and concise website copy, and messages for digital screens, social media and other platforms across campus. Evaluate copy against University and Associated Press standards and ensure copy this is free of grammar and style errors.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, or communications-related field preferred.

3 years of marketing, communications and/or journalism experience

Professional marketing/communications experience in a higher education setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated experience across various communication channels, including copywriting, ghost writing, and website copy, email, social media and/or print marketing materials
Ability to collaborate as part of a team
Ability to work with various constituencygroups across a broad landscape of stakeholders
Ability to recommend appropriate marketing and communications tactics for desired goals and outcomes
Broad understanding of marketing and communications principles; familiarity and proven abilities with various media options including print production and electronic methods, particularly email marketing
Strong copy writing skills with knowledge of AP style; collaborative work style; strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to meet timely and crucial deadlines; manage multiple projects simultaneously; must have initiative, creativity and decisiveness
Demonstrated ability and interest in continuously learning new, advanced technologies
Demonstrated understanding of media
