ABOUT THE PROJECT
Written during the pandemic, this is a deeply personal real-life story exploring how a genetic condition can touch every aspect of a person's life: relationships, identity, work, family, and community. The series aims to raise awareness while centering a narrative rooted in African American history, racism, and social justice. Think character-driven storytelling with a clear social impact mission.
The target format is a 5-6 episode limited series aimed at streaming platforms such as Netflix.
WHAT I NEED
Someone who can help shape and articulate this story into a compelling pitch for studios or streamers. That includes narrative framing, series positioning, and presentation of the project's vision and impact potential. We are also actively seeking funding for this project, so experience with film grants, arts funding applications, or entertainment fundraising is a strong plus.
Experience with true stories, autobiographical, or docuseries formats
Familiarity with African American history, systemic racism, and social justice themes -- not just as backdrop but as storytelling framework
Understanding of health equity or disability narratives is a strong plus
Experience with film grants or independent film fundraising welcomed
Has worked on projects that were actually pitched, greenlit, or funded
Comfortable collaborating with a creator who knows her story deeply but is navigating the pitch process for the first time
We are seeking someone open for an unpaid trial before committing to a full engagement. Looking to move forward by fall 2026.
BUDGET
This is an independent passion project with a limited budget and active funding pursuit. Please be upfront about your rates so we can determine fit early. Willingness to work creatively on compensation for the right project is appreciated.

Hi L, your project immediately caught my attention because adapting a personal autobiography into a limited series is a very different challenge than writing the book itself. I was wondering, are you still speaking with story consultants, or have you already narrowed it down to a few candidates? Also, since you mentioned funding, is your immediate priority building a pitch deck for investors and grants, or are you first focusing on refining the series structure?
