Job Responsibilities
The Director of Communications will lead the University's strategic communications efforts across external, internal and marketing channels. The position serves as the primary liaison to media outlets while overseeing internal communications and marketing content development. This role will focus on building and maintaining relationships with journalists, identifying newsworthy stories, developing compelling messaging, and executing communication strategies that strengthen Lander University's reputation. Responsibilities include earned media, executive and campus communications, website and newsletter content, email campaigns, and marketing materials that support institutional goals.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, English or a related field. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, communications, media relations, journalism, marketing communications, or strategic communications. Demonstrated success developing communication strategies and content for diverse audiences across multiple channels. Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills across digital, print and web platforms. Experience managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong customer service skills and a commitment to ethical communication practices. Valid driver's license and safe driving history are required.
Additional Comments
Extensive knowledge of public relations, media relations, marketing communications and strategic communications principles. Strong understanding of news media operations, content strategy, and audience engagement across digital and print channels. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, university leadership and campus stakeholders while developing clear, effective messaging for a variety of audiences.
