What to Expect
The Field Reliability Team's mission is to identify the root causes of issues and uncover opportunities to improve Tesla's products by reducing customer-facing problems, in close collaboration with other Engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of vehicle product systems across existing models. This is a hands-on contributor role focused on failure analysis and root-cause activities.
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to execute a variety of technical tasks supporting ongoing failure analysis. The successful candidate will work directly with Field Reliability Engineers to perform sample preparation, mechanical inspection, electrical testing, teardowns, and other analytical work.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a laboratory or similar manufacturing environment and will be comfortable with a wide range of analytical techniques, spanning precision mechanical inspection through electrical debugging and data acquisition. Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to follow step-by-step instructions, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset are essential.

What You'll Do
Coordinate incoming hardware returned for failure analysis and manage part inventory
Triage hardware for issues as requested by engineers
Perform teardowns, disassembly, and detailed inspections on drive unit assemblies, including motors, inverters, and gearboxes
Support root-cause analysis from issue identification through countermeasure implementation
Design and perform experiments to evaluate failure hypotheses
Evaluate and document results, including photographic evidence and quantitative measurements
What You'll Bring
1+ years of industry experience (or equivalent) in an analytical laboratory or similar manufacturing environment
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble components without instructions
Proficiency in mechanical fabrication, with experience in machine shop operations and expert-level skills with hand and power tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
Ability to use basic electrical tools such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other common equipment
Knowledge of electrical hazards, including precautionary measures around high-voltage equipment and spinning machinery
Interest in electric motors and geartrains

Expected Compensation $24.40 - $65.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
