Position Summary
The Marketing Director leads the effort to align brand strategy and activities with Maine Seacoast Mission’s purpose, values, and programs to build support among donors across Maine and the nation. This position creates, and oversees the creation of, engaging designed and written content to promote the Mission’s brand, programs, and services, building awareness amongst its target audiences.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Marketing Director leads planning and activities dedicated to marketing, communications, design, and public relations. The Director supports and coordinates Mission-wide external communication efforts and works with the COO and program directors to tell the compelling stories of those served by Maine Seacoast Mission.
This role is responsible for maintaining an integrated marketing approach as a core strategy, ensuring consistency between communication channels so stakeholders are motivated to take action in advancing the Mission’s vision and mission. Stakeholders involved include donors, community members, partners, and Mission staff.
The Marketing Director also provides direct support for the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Bring to life the Mission brand, style, messaging, and visual storytelling guidelines.
- Publish strategic communications interventions including magazine, Mission website (including updates and current news), print and digital collateral, digital newsletter, and occasional internal communications.
- Maintain and oversee execution of marketing initiative planning, delivery, and evaluation while adhering to goals, preapproved budget, and industry regulations.
- Write campaign briefs for PR, print, and digital channels as developed by the COO.
- Produce and publish content in an engaging, innovative, creative, and appealing manner.
- Assist in building campaigns based on the Mission’s annual and seasonal calendar.
- Manage media library.
- Other duties as assigned.
Web Management and Content Marketing Responsibilities
- Write and edit compelling narrative articles varying from 250 to 800 words.
- Create press releases and maintain press release calendar.
- Design and build monthly email newsletter via MailChimp or Constant Contact.
- Maintain website’s content including text and photography while ensuring all information is accurate.
- Monitor website’s traffic to measure popularity (SEO analytics).
Design Responsibilities
- Create content for use across all mediums including print, website, social media platforms, digital marketing, newsletters, events, etc.
- Design collateral for programmatic intent, development strategy, and brand identity.
- Edit photos as appropriate.
Media Management Responsibilities
- Establish strategy and maintain risk-managed and effective institutional social media account.
- Execute effective earned media and news release initiatives and relationships.
- Post regularly to the Mission’s channels and execute the Mission’s social media strategy.
- Manage social media accounts daily.
- Correspond promptly with all users’ direct messages and comments.
- Capture and analyze the social media insights.
- Moderate all user-generated content in line with the moderation policy for each community.

Qualifications
Core Qualifications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Able to undertake research using a variety of sources.
- Able to interview a broad variety of people with sensitivity and grace.
- Knowledge of major marketing channels and experience using digital and traditional channels.
- Experience in content management systems like a website.
- Experience in and working knowledge of SEO practices and analytics.
- Three years’ of current experience with social media management and best practices.
- Able to work independently and as a collaborator to an integrated marketing team.
- Creative and thinks outside the box.
- Can multi-task and work within tight deadlines.
- Thorough and precise in their work with good attention to detail.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Business, New Media, Public Relations or related field, or other relevant experience.
- Three years’ experience in the field.
- Graphic design.
- Digital photography and photo editing.
- Social media content management; knowledge and mastery of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, and YouTube.
- Experience with MS Office, WordPress, and Adobe including InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, etc.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Two years’ experience in managing others.
- Video production.
- Familiarity with Washington County, island living, or other regions with isolated communities.
- Bi-lingual, fluent, or conversational in Spanish.

Work Environment
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time at a computer or while driving.
- Ability to get on or off a boat in a variety of docking situations and be comfortable on board.
Travel Requirements
- Transportation for travel to Mission locations and events.
Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt, non-exempt position based on a 40-hour work week. The rate is $65,000 to $75,000 per year based on experience with excellent benefits.
