Job Title: Assistant Editor, Event Asset Management
Location: Cupertino, CA 95014 (Onsite)
Duration: 1 Month Contract

1. OVERVIEW
Client seeks an Assistant Editor for technical editing, transcoding and packaging. This is an on-site engagement over 3 weeks in Cupertino, CA. The contractor must be available for the specific range of dates.

2. SCOPE
Assistant Editor will
• Receive, track, and organize assets while maintaining delivery logs.
• Conform file names and manage versioning.
• Validate technical specifications of final deliverable files arriving to Transmission Operations Center.
• Process, modify and package file sets to specifications of destination platform and use case.
• Contribute detailed review to the QC process for each step of the process.
• Perform file transcodes, packaging and delivery of all deliverables to their destinations.

Out of Scope: Production decisions, creative edits, media operations, content alterations, venue logistics, system engineering.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES
General:
• Communicate clearly and regularly with rest of team directly and via slack, email and designated documentation.
• Diligently observe security procedures and the integrity of the process.

Pre-Event:
• Participate in onboarding to learn the workflow context and details of deliverables.
• Review existing documentation, file workflows, deliverables and failsafe plans.
• Identify risks and recommend updates/modifications.
• Clarify scope and specifications if necessary.
• Confirm access for resources, systems and tools for self and others as needed
• Contribute to deliverables and run-of-show checklist

File Workflow & Packaging:
• Prepare transcode workstations and resources including drives
• Acquire Deliverables
o Copy files between servers and validate specs and integrity of received files
o Validate and correct filename to conform if necessary
o Check audio and subtitle files for Length, channel count and compatibility

VOD/Transcode workflow
o Prepare component files for VOD encoding
o Modify files for Chinese Open Caption Version Live via FCP
o Modify files for stage with English Open caption window burn and multichannel audio
o Transcode podcast version to spec with subtitles
o Assist VOD encode engineer with file organization and verification
o Package copies of required files for platform pickup
o Document timings and completion of deliverables inbound and outbound.

During Event and QC:
o Monitor assigned signal path continuously and provide real-time technical and asset QC on a live stream
o Maintain incident logs and documentation of timings

Post-Event (by event 1 day):
o Standby to act on any redeliveries or replacements
o Receive and archive recordings from on-site event to NAS
o Debrief and submit Asset Management report with lessons learned or notes for further action

4. REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications:
• Prior support of managing high volume asset management under pressure
• Experience with Final Cut Pro, Compressor, FFWorks, DaVinci Resolve
• Knowledge of and experience with current broadcast video standards codecs and encoders
• Consistent and precise attention to detail
• Strong troubleshooting under pressure
• Full-time on-site availability during tech rehearsals and event

Deliverables:
• Transmission / Workflow plan assessment with recommendations
• Asset Deliverables checklist (preparation prior to assets)
• Completion of required deliverables on site per workflow plan (during event)
• Incident log (during event)
• Post-event technical report (due day after event)
