Stanford University Press (SUP) is seeking an Editorial, Design, and Production (EDP) Director to lead a team of 8, managing production editorial, design, typesetting, and manufacturing. SUP publishes 145 books a year across the humanities, social sciences, law, and business.
Core Duties:
- Hire and manage production editing, design, and manufacturing staff to achieve press goals.
- Evaluate manuscripts submitted by sponsoring editors.
- Create production budgets, and select suitable production editors for projects.
- Oversee the direction for the art program and design for each project.
- Manage the day-to-day work of staff, monitor workload, and adjust schedules as necessary to ensure department goals are met.
- Participate as a member of the Press Management Team to create and implement publishing strategies and long-term goals.
- Provide input towards the annual budget for department and press.
- Develop production procedures, practices, and systems.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Experience:
Ten years of experience plus minimum three years of management experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Management experience in book editorial and/or manufacturing functions at a university or commercial press.
- Solid leadership skills and demonstrated ability to create a strong team environment.
- Ability to foster working relationships with peers and staff.
- Comprehensive book editorial design and production skills.
