Job Summary
We are seeking a Technical Writer II to develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing documentation for complex products and systems. This role works closely with cross-functional manufacturing and engineering teams to create clear, accurate work instructions, assembly procedures, and technical documentation that support production, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and maintain operational, assembly, test, maintenance, and instructional documentation.
- Develop technical content for paper-based, multimedia, and web-based documentation.
- Collaborate with manufacturing support, engineering, and production teams to capture and document processes for new builds, updates, and manufacturing changes.
- Conduct interviews with subject matter experts and technical staff to gather information for documentation.
- Translate technical information into clear documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing assembly and test instructions that meet quality and customer requirements.
- Support design and development projects by training and guiding technicians during work instruction audits.
- Interpret schematics, 3D models, engineering drawings, layouts, and written or verbal instructions to improve documentation.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and documentation process enhancements.
- Ensure manufacturing documentation is updated promptly in response to engineering changes and production feedback.
- Audit documentation to verify compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Recommend documentation formats and standards that improve usability and consistency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with approximately 2 years of related experience, an advanced degree with little or no experience, or equivalent practical experience.
- 0–3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, technical writing, or a manufacturing environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.
- Experience creating technical documentation and work instructions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to quickly learn new software applications and workflow systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with manufacturing methods, assembly processes, hardware specifications, and manufacturing quality and safety practices.
- Knowledge of product development and manufacturing process improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation, production processes, and manufacturing workflows.
- Experience auditing technical documentation for engineering and quality compliance.
- Ability to interpret engineering schematics, drawings, and 3D models.
