DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Communications and Digital Strategy or designee, the employee in this position coordinates day-to-day District communications activities, including content creation, social media management, website updates, event support, and response to routine public inquiries. An employee in this classification receives general supervision within a framework of standard communications procedures and style guidelines, and exercises judgment in day-to-day content and scheduling decisions. This job class requires skill in writing and editing, basic graphic design and multimedia production, social media platform management, and customer service.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Draft, edit, and distribute District newsletters, press releases, website content, and social media posts consistent with District branding and style guidelines.

Manage the day-to-day content calendar and posting schedule across District social media platforms.

Monitor social media, local news outlets, and community forums for District-related coverage; flag emerging issues to the Assistant Director of Communications.

Coordinate photography and videography coverage of District and school events; maintain a digital asset library of photos, logos, templates, and brand guidelines.

Design and produce flyers, brochures, signage, and other collateral materials using standard graphic design and multimedia tools.

Maintain and update District and school website content in coordination with site and department staff.

Assist in coordinating translation and interpretation services to support multilingual communications and language-access requirements.

Support planning and logistics for community engagement events, Board meetings, press events, and District ceremonies.

Respond to routine public and media inquiries; route non-routine or sensitive inquiries to the Assistant Director of Communications.

Assist in maintaining District mass notification and emergency communication systems, including distribution lists.

Track website, social media, and email/text engagement metrics; prepare regular summary reports.

Assist with the planning and execution of District publications, newsletters, and the annual report.

Provide general administrative support to the Communications Office, including scheduling, correspondence, and records maintenance.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS
Generally, any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical method of demonstrating these requirements would be:

A High School Diploma.

An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design, or a related field from an accredited college or university preferred.

Two years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

Additional years of directly related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. There will be no substitution for the required experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:

Principles of public relations, community engagement, and effective written communication.

Social media platforms, scheduling tools, and current best practices.

Basic graphic design and multimedia production tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable software).

AP style writing conventions.

Website content management systems.

Office methods, organization, and procedures.

ABILITY TO:

Write clearly, accurately, and appropriately for varied audiences and platforms.

Work with minimal supervision on routine tasks and exercise judgment in day-to-day decisions.

Manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding District communications.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, families, media, and the public.

Use basic photo and video editing tools.

Communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written form and follow oral and written instructions.

LICENSES
Valid California driver's license with a driving record which meets the insurance requirements of the Vallejo City Unified School District.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Office and school environments; frequent travel between District sites; occasional evening and weekend work for Board meetings, community events.
