SXSW Seasonal Copywriter, Performance Growth

Job Purpose SXSW is seeking a sharp, strategic Seasonal Copywriter to support our Marketing team through one of the most exciting times of the year. In this role, you’ll write high-impact, conversion-focused copy for digital campaigns across email, paid media, and landing pages, supporting both the SXSW and SXSW EDU events. This position will collaborate with team members across Marketing, Content, Programming, and Partnerships to shape messaging at every stage of the funnel, from awareness to engagement and conversion.

Duties & Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Craft compelling, action-oriented copy for paid ads, email campaigns, website, landing pages, and digital promotions.

Adapt brand voice and tone across multiple verticals, including SXSW EDU, Music, Film & TV, and Innovation

Collaborate cross-functionally to align messaging across platforms

Support A/B testing and optimize copy based on performance data

Contribute to copy strategy and audience segmentation plans

Help maintain brand voice across channels while tailoring messaging by funnel stage

Assist with website content needs, microcopy, and UX writing as needed

On-Site Responsibilities

Support the on-site production and execution of conference and festival marketing for SXSW & SXSW EDU through various marketing operations

Qualifications & Skills Qualifications include:

3+ years of experience writing performance-driven copy (agency, in-house, or freelance)

Portfolio that shows high-converting emails, landing pages, and paid media copy

Comfortable interpreting data and optimizing creatives based on results

Strong grasp of audience segmentation, user journey, and funnel-based messaging

Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills

Experience with tools such as HubSpot, Airtable, G-Suite, and major ad platforms (Meta, Google, etc.)

Agile, collaborative, and able to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines

Must be based in Austin, Texas, and able to reliably work from the SXSW office during the term of the contract

Familiarity with SXSW verticals and audiences is a plus.

Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully:

Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.

Ability to lift up to 10+pounds occasionally, as needed.

Operation of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers.

Ability to work outdoors, including exposure to varying temperatures or noise levels.

Work Location & Schedule This position is located in Austin, Texas. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, with flexibility needed for campaign deadlines and peak periods leading up to March events. Must be available to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during the lead-up to and during SXSW EDU and SXSW.
