We're building AI capable of autonomous scientific discovery. Our mission is to reach a world where discovery is no longer bottlenecked by the number of human scientists alive to pursue it.
Reinforcement learning has taken models remarkably far in math and code, where an answer can be checked and a model can learn from ten thousand attempts. Science offers no such reward function. The judgment a scientist exercises before any result is certain, which hypothesis is worth the month, what the evidence actually supports, when to abandon a promising dead end, has never been captured at scale. That missing signal is the real bottleneck, and it's the one we build for: the environments, datasets, and expert reasoning that teach models to do science, not just recite it.
That work is already in the world. We built and operate Aristotle, an AI research partner trusted by thousands of researchers at some of the most demanding institutions in science, including GSK, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Merck, Stanford, MIT, Harvard, and the FDA. Alongside it, we're developing autonomous research systems that take on long-horizon scientific problems end to end.
Backed by leading investors and advised by the scientists who built the field, Autopoiesis is redefining what discovery looks like in the most important industry of the century.
About the role
We're looking for a Head of Marketing to own how Autopoiesis shows up in the world. This is the person responsible for our public voice, our campaigns, and the words people read the moment they land on our product. We already have real reach, an audience that follows us and work that has traveled, and you'll take ownership of it and build the marketing function around it, working closely with the CEO and the product team, with the freedom to decide what we say, where we say it, and how we make people feel it.
This is a wide mandate. On any given week you might write the copy inside the product, ship a campaign, rewrite the homepage, land a launch, and turn a research result into something the internet can't stop sharing. You'll set the strategy and then execute it yourself, at least until the motion is proven enough to build a team around.
You should have exceptional taste, deep fluency in how attention moves online, and high agency. Somewhere in your past is a thing you made that broke out, a post, a product, a project, a moment that got real reach on its own merits. We care much more about what you've actually made travel than about years on a resume.
Key responsibilities
- Own the entire marketing surface, from brand and campaigns to launches, landing pages, and the copy inside the product itself.
- Turn our research and product into stories the internet wants to spread, deciding which proof points lead and how each moment lands.
- Run campaigns end to end, from the idea to the copy to the execution, and measure what actually drove attention and demand.
- Own our public voice across every channel, shaping how we sound and staying consistent as we grow.
- Partner with the CEO and product team to translate what we're building into a narrative people understand and remember.
- Build the marketing function around momentum we already have, turning existing reach into a repeatable, compounding practice and laying the groundwork for a team.
What you'll bring
Required experience
- A track record of making things travel, whether that's content, products, campaigns, or a following you built yourself. Show us the thing that broke out.
- Exceptional writing, long form and short, with the taste to know which register fits which moment.
- Fluency in how attention actually moves online, and instinct for what makes technical work legible and shareable.
- The range to run strategy and execution yourself, from the big idea down to the last line of copy.
- High agency and comfort owning outcomes with little structure around you.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience marketing technical products, developer tools, or research-driven work.
- Familiarity with the AI landscape and the narratives shaping the field.
- Early-stage startup experience, comfortable building before the playbook exists.
- A public presence of your own that you've grown and can point to.
Our values
The mission is the only thing. Everything we do either moves discovery forward or it doesn't, and anything that doesn't is a day we won't get back. We hold every decision, every hire, and every week against that one question. The mission is hard enough that nothing else earns a place next to it.
Bet on the process, not the outcome. We think in expected value. A good decision made on the best available information is a good decision even when the result disappoints, and a lucky win off a bad process teaches us nothing. We reward sound reasoning, run the bets worth running, and judge ourselves by how well we chose, not only by how it landed.
Don't compete, be uncontested. Competition is a symptom of a weak position. We don't win by racing others down a crowded path, we win by building something no one else can, in a direction no one else is looking. When we find ourselves fighting for scraps, we've made a strategic mistake upstream.
Own it end to end. There are no bystanders here. We identify what's broken, take full responsibility for a strong result, and see it through. We're self-driven, own our mistakes plainly, and feel deep responsibility for what we're building.
Where we work
We are hiring for this position in our San Francisco office. We are in person 5 days a week.
What we offer
This role offers competitive salary, meaningful equity, and competitive benefits. You'll have real freedom to shape how the world sees Autopoiesis, building on an audience that's already paying attention, which also means we'll expect a lot.
Most importantly, you'll own how one of the most important stories in science gets told. If you want to do your life's work with us, even if you don't meet every requirement.
Equal opportunity
Autopoiesis Sciences, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected characteristics.
