Senior SEO & GEO Strategist Job at Eastern Standard in New York

Eastern Standard · New York, NY, USA · Remote ·

Job type:
Freelance

Eastern Standard is a branding, web, and marketing agency with RevenueZen by Eastern Standard is its marketing arm, a B2B SEO and generative engine optimization (GEO) practice whose clients are SaaS companies, startups, and B2B service firms in health tech, professional services, financial services, renewable energy, and other sectors. We build organic visibility in Google and in AI answer engines, and we measure it in leads and pipeline.

As Senior SEO & GEO Strategist, you own the search and AI visibility strategy for a portfolio of client accounts. You decide what each account should do next, direct the people who execute it, and explain the results to the client in business terms. You hold opinions about SEO and AI search and can back them up. You would rather run a test than wait for an industry consensus, you share failed tests as openly as successful ones, and you change your mind when the evidence calls for it. You keep up with changes to Google's algorithms and to AI search, and you test new approaches before recommending them to clients.

You report to the Team Lead, Organic Growth and Visibility, and work closely with them. You build account strategy together, review plans and results in regular one-on-ones, and get direct guidance as you ramp up and as search and AI visibility keep changing. You work day to day with our senior content manager and writing team, who produce the content you plan, and with our link-building team, who carry out the link and citation plans you set.

What you'll do
Research and strategy.
You run the analysis that sets the plan:

Keyword/topical research around the client's priority products and services, organized into hub-and-spoke topic clusters

Site architecture, URL structure, and navigation review

Technical SEO audits

Backlink profile review

Content audits that end in a refresh, consolidate, or create recommendations for each page

Competitor gap analysis covering both search rankings and AI share of voice

GEO and AI search.
You track how often clients appear and are cited in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. You decide which schema, page structure, and content changes will improve that visibility.

Experimentation.
You run regular tests across your accounts. You measure what changed, document what worked and what didn't, so the whole team learns from it, and explain results to clients without overstating them. When a client asks about a change no one has a playbook for, you give a recommendation and explain how you'll check whether it was right.

Content and links.
You plan topics and create content briefs for every stage of the buyer's journey, which our content manager and writers turn into published pieces. You set on-page optimization and refresh priorities. You write the white-hat plan that guides our link- and citation-acquisition efforts.

Performance and reporting.
You read GA4, Google Search Console, AI visibility monitoring, and the client's CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar) to connect organic work to leads and pipeline. You report progress monthly and in quarterly business reviews, and every report ends with a recommendation.

Client leadership.
You run monthly strategy calls and quarterly reviews. You set expectations early and keep clients informed between calls. Clients should come to you for advice on broader marketing decisions, not only for SEO deliverables. When a client would benefit from added scope, you make the case.

AI-assisted workflows.
Our team runs much of its audit, research, briefing, and content QA work through AI workflows built on Claude and other tools. You use them every day, find where they produce weak output, and help improve them.

Contractors and mentoring.
You may brief, manage, and review the work of freelance specialists, and you help newer team members improve at their work.

What you bring
Required
3–5 years of SEO experience, including at least the last 1-2 years doing hands-on SEO, GEO, or AEO work with tangible results - GEO and AEO have changed SEO work within the last three years, so we weigh recent hands-on work more heavily than total years.
