Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized, creative, and proactive Assistant Publisher to support Liberties' operational, strategic, communications, and sales functions. In our small team, the Assistant Publisher will play a critical role in helping in-print issue production, online content, outreach, brand expansion, talent support, growth, and the day-to-day operations of Liberties. The position is ideal for someone who is passionate about the possibilities of literary journals and independent publishing.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate on planning, editorial calendars, and use of content.
Coordinate and maintain the publishing schedule for quarterly issues and online content.
Participate in the production and design, copyediting, and digital integration with vendor platforms.
Follow-up on contract communications with writers and vendors.
Work on the digital presence across the website, social media, and subscriber communications.
Assist in fundraising, partnerships, and grant opportunities.
Support in-person and online event planning and execution.
Generate new ideas to further our mission, grow our reach, and be of service to our readers.
Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, documentation, and mailings.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, keen attention to detail.
Love of reading and writing with strong verbal communication skills.
Interest in the arts and culture.
Familiarity with tools such as Google Workspace, MailChimp, Canva, InDesign, and WordPress.
Self-motivated and reliable; able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Two year prior work experience and a demonstrated interest in literary or other cultural endeavors.
